Best Way to Learn Language
68How to learn foreign language
I’ve been living in a foreign country for 3+ years and learning new languages has become a common practice for me. My first milestone was English. As soon as I mastered the first foreign language, I realized that actual learning can become a fun and easy habit which becomes an asset at last. Now I’m on my way to speak French and Turkish fluently. I have gone through many books and learning tactics.
Now I want to share with you the most successful ways of learning a foreign language which I’ve been practicing personally.
1. Learn with Pimsleur
This is an audio lessons guide. It helps you start speaking without any previous knowledge. Pimleur has its own unique style of teaching. Once you try the first lesson, you become amazed by the affect.
Listen to one lesson on the way to work, school, or anywhere else. Do not set up specific time and restrict yourself with the number of lessons for a week. Learning will become your habit. Even when you are doing some work at home, put the CD on and repeat aloud. You will be surprised how easy and fast you start saying some phrases, then sentences, and finally complicated monologues. I personally used Pimsleur for my French lessons. I continue listening to the lessons while walking to work, washing dishes or exercising indoors or outdoors.

2. Listen to music, learn lyrics, sing, watch movies, and chat
The second step would be an environment you create around yourself. If you are serious about fast learning, try to involve yourself in the language as much as possible. Choose your favorite songs and find out their lyrics. Learning lyrics will not create you any difficulty for sure J Karaoke or simple singing will enhance your listening and pronunciation skills. You won’t even notice how new words will be crafted in your mind. Take DVDs and watch them in that particular language with English subtitles to make understanding easier, but do not involve in reading so much. And of course, chatting with your friends from that country can motivate you and bring some slang knowledge and common phrases.
You can always diversify and speed up your learning with especially fun and useful programs. For those learning French, you can buy Rocket French.

3. Change your cell phone language
One more interesting way is changing your cell phone’s language. It will make you get used to some words.
4. Stick the notes
The most known and popular method is sticking the words all around your house. It is really an effective way to remember new words. They just stuck in your mind as you see them million times a day. But it is very important that you actually notice them and read aloud while passing by. Believe me, you will even take time to stick them all over and think: ok, finally I’ve done it! But no, that’s only a beginning of the journey. Enjoy it and read the words. You will be surprised by the speed of your new words intake.
5. Podcast
And… Guess what? For those who have ipods, podcast would be a great help. There are bunch of free podcasts of learning different languages. Just sign up and enjoy variety of short lessons every day.
