Free Jobs for Writers

As a full-time freelance writer, I spend a lot of time on job-related websites looking for new projects and clients. When I don't have a project that I'm working on, I consider it my job to look for more work. I dedicate several hours per day to seeking out new opportunities.

Below you will find my list of the top websites for writing jobs. They all list both freelance and on-site jobs. None of them are pay sites; they are all free. I hope you find them useful. If you'd like to add your favorite websites to the list, please do so in the comments!

The Best Free Job Websites

ProBlogger.net: One way for writers to make money, whether or not they have a full time writing job, is to blog. Not only does ProBlogger have a lot of great content to help with blogging but the job board has several new paid blogging positions per day. They also offer jobs from B5 Media, one of the top blogging companies online. Unlike some blog networks, B5 has gotten a lot of positive feedback from writers for their pay scale and traffic bonuses.

FreelanceWriting.com: I look forward to Tuesday morning when the Morning Coffee newsletter shows up in my in-box loaded with writing jobs. While this isn't one of the websites I check every day, I am very glad that I signed up for the newsletter. There are always lots of good job listings and it's FREE and non-spammy.

FreelanceWritingGigs.com: This blog is a fantastic resource for job listings, job advice and other information for writers. It's a very supportive network for both new and experienced writers to ask questions and share feedback. There are daily job listings from all over the web and it's my first stop every day for great job leads. Not all of the jobs listed are off-site, so it's great for freelance telecommuters and people looking for local work.

MediaBistro.com: All your dream jobs are listed here. The major publications, media networks and powerhouse companies post job openings on MediaBistro. While the majority of jobs posted are full-time and on-site, you can find some good contract or freelance jobs too.

Writer's Resource Center Job Roll: This website has a daily listing of jobs and always offers some great advice at the top of the page. A solid mix of on-site, telecommute and contract positions.

Writing Job Forums

While these aren't on my top list of websites I visit every day, I do drop in from time to time to check out the job listings. Every now and then you can find some good opportunities.

AbsoluteWrite: The paying markets forum at Absolute Write has some good listings every now and again. Additionally, for $10, you can have a permanent listing on the AbsoluteWrite writer's listings, which has given me some good traffic to my website.

WritersWeekly.com: This forum isn't all that busy but it does have a good list of paying markets for writers.
