Best credit card rewards programs
63An an urge to sign up new credit card holders, today´s credit card companies offer a variety of rewards programs to get you to sign-up to use their credit cards. Because the credit card industry is so competitive, the rewards credit card companies offer can be quite appealing.
When deciding on which credit cards to sign-up for, it's important to think about which type of rewards will benefit you most. For this reason, I've put together a list of the best credit card rewards programs being offered.
Gas and Fuel based rewards cards
With gasoline prices still near all time highs, people are drawn to credit cards that offer rebates on gas and fuel purchases.
If you drive a lot, this type of reward card can be ideal for you. Some gas credit cards offer up to 10% cask-back.
There are however other things to keep in mind. Some cards only offer cash back on gas, and some at just one type of station. All other purchases will get you either nothing or possibly a lower interest rate.
Another thing to consider is that these types of cards tend to have higher interest rates, so you should consider paying your balance in full at the end of each month to avoid interest charges.
Cash Back on purchases
These cards are for big spenders and can get you anywhere from 5% to 20% cash back on purchases made at select shops.
The limitation on these cards is that the cash back offer is usually only valid at specific retailers. But if that is not a problem for you, or if you are already a regular customer of these stores, then you can take advantage of the significant cash back rewards.
Credit cards that offer a cash rebate on all your purchases, regardless of what you buy and where, will usually off a much lower cash back rebate, possibly around 1% of total purchases.
Travel and Airline Miles based rewards
If you are a frequent flyer, than you could be better off signing-up for a credit card that offers you airline miles rewards. Rather than paying you cash-back, these types of cards earn you miles that can be applied towards free tickets.
You can argue if the value of the miles earned for travel is as valuable as pure cash-back cards, and you should definitely do some math, but the ability to earn bonus miles from your purchases can make these credit cards a good option if you do a lot of traveling.

Balance Transfer Offers
You have probably already noticed the fliers you get in the mail, offering you great deals on balance transfers, and if regularly carry a balance on another credit card that carries a high-interest rate, then you should consider taking advantage of these balance transfer offers.
The best balance transfer offers normally waive the transfer fee, and/or offer 12 months of zero percent interest on the transferred amount, or offer very low rates with no time limit for paying of the transferred amount other than making the minimum monthly payments.
Oftentimes you can get a combination of these benefits. So if you currently carry a balance on a high-rate card, you'll probably be better off not with a rewards type card, but with a low-interest balance transfer offer.
Interest free purchases
If you're thinking of making a big ticket purchase, and want to stretch out the payments for a longer period of time, then you might consider an interest free offer. While not earning you cash back rewards of any kind, these type of card can save you money on interest.
With this type of any offer, you can usually make a purchase and not pay any interest on the purchase for the entire length of time it takes you to pay off the loan. This types of offers are more usual for store branded credit cards.
