The art of re-gifting
Sometimes you just have to do it. I had a closet full of stuff people gave us from the first party we ever threw. After we were married a few months.
It was holiday/housewarming. We got a lot of crap and I wasn't ready to put everything out because A. we didn't have the space and B. I wasn't sure what type of decor we were going with.
We had a pretty good selection of stuff some of which just needed to stay hidden. At first my husband was mortified as if he discovered something evil and I was the evil doer. He never knew you could actually give something to someone that someone gave to you. I think he felt it was sacrilegious. It explains why he would keep the quirkiest stuff people dumped on him as gifts. The typical pack rat.
So for a while I had a Fibber McGee closet and when we would go to a party I would pull out a neat little bag and be merrily on my way. It lasted only for awhile and of course I was careful not to re-gift the gifter. You have to be on your game and if your memory isn't too keen keep a list.
I did recieve a group of picture frames back at a Christmas white elephant. I chuckled to myself because I really liked the set of 3 mother of pearl and silver frames that came in a nice decorative box, They were each a diffrent shape. I have them on a night stand in my bedroom and match perfectly. What goes around comes around.
