Liguria is a coastal region of north-western Italy that borders France to the west, Piedmont to the north, and Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany to the east. It lies on the Ligurian Sea. It is a narrow strip of land, enclosed between the sea and the Alps. It is one the most beautiful regions of Italy with many places to visit.
Portofino
Portofino is a small beatiful Italian village located on the Ligurian Riviera. It is a well-known tourist resort and its small harbour is considered to be among the most beautiful italian ports. It is one of the most popular yachting destination in the Mediterranean. The town is not very large and most hotels and beaches are a short walk from the harbor. The harbor is surrounded by many restaurants that serve unique versions of the ligurian specialties.
Rapallo
Rapallo is another beatiful coastal town in Liguria, it is part of the Tigullio Gulf and is located in between Portofino and Chiavari. It is a very pleasant and quiet town. The climate is moderate and the main part of town is on fairly level land. Most of the villas are built in the hills immediately behind the town to protect them from strong northern winds. Friedrich Nietzsche wrote that the ideas for Zarathustra first came to him while walking on two roads surrounding Rapallo. Ezra Pound spent much of the late 1920s and 1930s living in the town.
Camogli
Camogli is located just at the basis of Monte di Portofino and guarantees a very special gastronomy tradition (focaccia in particular). Camogli is more than just a fishing village. You may see some of the villagers knitting fishing nets while you stroll along the harbor and boardwalk via Garibaldi. While walking you could check out the ice cream parlors, cafes and shops.
The basilica Santa Maria Assunta, the largest of the town's five churches, is worht visiting. It's decorated gold left by many of the town's seamen when they died.
Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre form a portion of coast on the Ligurian Riviera. It is to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The Cinque Terre is a very popular tourist destination. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A walking trail connects the five villages. The road from Riomaggiore to Manarola is called the Via Dell'Amore (roughly, "Lovers Walk") and varies in difficulty from an easy stroll to a rough and physically challenging hike.
