Betta Fish (Siamese Fighting Fish)
What is betta fish?
Betta is a large genus of small, often colorful, freshwater ray-finned fishes. Most famous species of Betta is Siamese fighting fish which is also called the betta fish or just betta. The Siamese fighting fish is one of the most popular species of freshwater aquarium fish.
Homeland
Siamese fighting fish or the Betta fish is native to the rice paddies of Thailand and Cambodia.
Diet
In captivity, adult betta fish should be fed once a day and babies should be fed twice a day. It is extremely important not to overfeed the fish.
Lifespan
Bettas have a lifespan of 2-5 years. Normally they live for 2-3 years,rarely they will live for 4-5 years.
Family
Betta belong to the gourami family (Osphronemidae).
Species
There are 28 known species of Betta(Siamese fighting fish is one of them).

They are a beautiful fish, are the naturally aggressive or are they trained in some fashion to fight?

Yes rb11 they are really beautiful. I don't think one can train them to fight and I haven't seen them involved in aggressive acts yet.

When I was a kid, my brother's friend Keo used to come over almost everyday and bring a new Betta in order to fight my brother's Betta fish. After about a week of getting beat, Keo gave up and never brought over another Betta. When reflecting upon it, I guess it was cruel to have the fish fight one another...What are your thoughts?
