My novel

I just wanted to see if I could garner any interest in a novel I am writing. My work is in its earliest stages but I'm looking for a literary agent who is interested in a novel best described as "Bridges of Madison County" with an edge. I included a portion of my novel below to see if it catches any interest. This is a rough first draft. Thank you for your eyes.

He looked down three hundred and seventy five feet below with total darkness in his mind and in the chilly waters beneath him. The illumination of the bridge’s tower he stood upon was shared with a helicopter light above, flashing police car lights below and sporadic sensational flashes of lightning around him. The rain came down hard on the man whose life now was at its crossroad, a life he no longer held in his hands but he now held precariously in his head. Few had survived a fall from the St. Vincent Thomas Bridge from two hundred and fifty feet but from where this man stood no one has ever survived. He did his research. He wanted to make sure if he was going to do this, it was done right.

He then sat down on the tower to take in the view. He saw the brilliant flashes of lightning around him as he wished for it to strike him. He heard the thunder as it rocked the bridge. He felt the rain hit his face repeatedly as if to nudge him. He smelled the salt in the rain and it reminded him of what lurked in the depths below. He then began to focus below him. He heard the policemen blaring over the megaphone for him not to do this. He saw the lights flashing along the tower and directly on him. He then saw the helicopter circling the bridge. He felt the coldness of the air strike his bare skin and against his rain soaked t-shirt and shorts.

After a moment to absorb his self inflicted surroundings he summoned the strength to slip the light backpack off of his shoulders and onto his lap. From the backpack he removed an item, a clearly laminated square shaped pink bookmark with the words “I love you forever…” handwritten upon it. As he stood alone and smelled, heard, seen and felt almost everything he thought of all the times he smelled her sweet scent, heard her soothing voice, felt her skin against his and saw her beautiful face. He then realized in his darkest moment she was not there. She was just a memory. Now he just wanted his life to take the shape of her memory.
