Our Friendship with God

John 15:15 (Amplified): 15I do not call you servants any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.]
Proverbs 3:32 (NLT): 32 Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord, but he offers his friendship to the godly.

Great hub. Thank you for these verses.
First, I want to say that I am not an atheist. I was raised in a pentecostal church environment. I always thought, (even as a child) that some of the things that were talked about in church sounded far-fetched. I just need more of a modern explanation for the things that you may consider a miracle or an act of God. So, basically what I'm getting at is this, the Bible and church goers consider their God to be manlike, extremely kind and perfect. But where is this kindness and perfection. Since you were born, just image all the people that died painful, tragic, horrendous deaths. Just a week ago here in my city not far from my own house. A young, intelligent, respectful teenager was beaten to death. The video is all over Youtube. He was just leaving school or picking up his little sister from school, when he walked in the middle of a gang-fight (and no, he was not involved in gang activity before this). The bottom line is: your God lets these horrible things happen to us and if it is true that he can see absolutely everything that everyone is doing, then why doesn't he intervene to help one in need? He isn't so kind and caring if he can't even stop a child from being murdered. Where's your God when you need him most? Why didn't your God help the victims of 9/11? Your God may not exist.
Can you answer any of these?
(I want to believe in your God, Jesus Christ, maybe YOU can help me see the light. Because I don't think he's real).
There is a reason for everything that happens in this world, whether you can explain it or not. We don't know what God's big picture is. All I know is I would rather be wrong and take a dirt bath for eternity, than take a chance at having your point of view and burn forever
God Doesn't let bad things happen to people. Bad things happen because the evil people in our world bring it onto the world. Without suffering, there would be no compassion. The very fact that you feel compassion for these people shows that God is in you and that he is real.
Also, the suffering anyone on earth experiences is in no way close to the suffering Christ experienced on the cross and when he see's us sin. It isn't even close to the suffering in hell either. For us to question God's judgement anyhow, is wrong. He knows best and when we question his authority he we are saying we know more, when he ultimately knows all things such as how many hairs are on our head, the complexity of the human body, the forces of nature. He created everything and everything in our world seems to fit together so perfectly. that in itself is amazing to me. No one on earth can begin to comprehend all that he knows and has done for us, so how can we question his wisdom? Also, suffering is a part of life. A pastor I heard once said this: MLK said that in order for something to be considered unjust, it must go agaisnt a higher law of order. Acording to the order of evolution, the only reason the human species is here is because we violently beat out other species. therefore,to say that suffering is bad and unjustified is to say that evolution goes against a higher power, and that there has to be a transendent good purpose for the universe which would have to be God. To look at the world and say that the suffering is unjust, you are assuming a standard of justice that is higher than survival of the fittest, which implies that God exists. I know this is confusing, it took me a long time to understand. I'm sixteen, and I struggle with the concept of suffering in our world very often. I do know however, that in all the times I have faced suffering God has held my hand and helped me through it. I know this because without him, I would have given up. Plus, consider how many people may come to know God as a result of suffering. Ive heard a stories about children and adults girl with cancer who brought someone to God just through their continuous faith throughout it all. In that way, the way they coped with their struggles sparked somehting in someone elses life which brought them to God. As for your questioning of God's kindness in situations such as these, a perfect example in the bible is the story of Lazarus and Martha in John 11. In the story lazarus is sick to the point of death and the family wants jesus to heal him. Jesus does nothing, and Lazarus dies. then, Jesus goes and is met by Martha who says if he had been there, his brother wouldn't have died. When Jesus saw her weep, he was DEEPLY MOVED. the same paster I mentioned above said that in Greek, the 'deeply moved' implied grief to the point of rage. in verse 35 it is said that 'Jesus wept.' he wept even though he knew he was about to raise Lazarus, because he felt their pain. verse 36 sums it up when even outsiders said 'see how he LOVED him.' Jesus never wants us to question his love for us our doubt it. I could go on and on, but I hope I helped in some way and I hope you heard God in anything I said. If not, I hope someone did. God Bless you.
Nice bible verse collection about friendship.
Thanks for the reminders!! Love these Scriptures. Never quite understood Proverbs 29:5???? I've had many friends compliment me over various things whether it be my work as an artist or as simple as, "I love your new haircut." Why would God consider that a trap if they were True Friends? Just curious. Have a blessed night. Peace ~K
I was disappointed you left out the friendship of Ruth and Naomi.
Ruth 1:16-17: 16And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
M Burger, the ommission was not at all by choice; in fact, I know you will see herein I did not single out the friendships of any Biblical characters.
Great suggestion, nevertheless.
Great hub. I'm going to look up the ones that you listed at the end.
I don't understand the one about giving compliments to friends, though, unless it is referring to flattering people for the wrong reasons, i.e., to get something from them or to get their trust when you are trying to deceive them. If it's a sincere compliment, I see no harm in it and it seems to be an expression of love for the person.
Misstikal1, ask God to show you the answers to your questions, and ask Jesus to come into your heart and life and be in your presence and send you his love and his answers. There is an answer to your question, but no living person is meant to answer it; you are meant to ask God and Jesus for this answer.
Most people who say what you are saying are not open to the answers that people give them on this type of question. The answers are there, but will you believe their answers?
I no longer answer these types of questions.
