Bible Verses About...
What the Bible Says About Weed, Alcohol
Looking for Bible verses about marijuana (weed) or alcohol? While the Bible is filled with instruction on avoiding drunkenness, Bible verses about weed specifically do not exist.
However, Galatians 5:19-21 says, "Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."
In this passage, the word sorcery implies "the use or administering of drugs," from the original translated Greek word pharmakeia, according to Strong's Concordance.
Not only is sorcery found in Galatians, but in a multitude of other verses as well, all implying the use of marijuana and other drugs.
The most serious of these is Revelation 9:20-21 and Revelation 18:23, where scripture tells us mind-altering drug use, as experience by those who smoke weed or use other drugs, will lead to destruction and punishment for those who will not repent:
"The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts," (Revelation 9:20-21).
"...and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery," (Revelation 18:23).
Bible Verses About Drunkenness
Wheras the Bible has little specifically to say about weed, Bible verses regarding drunkenness are plenty and condemn irresponsible drinking specifically.
In Proverbs 31:4-7, King Lemuel writes that his mother forwarned that drunkenness clouds the mind and can lead to injustice and poor judgment. "For if they drink, they may forget the law," (Proverbs 31:5 NLT).
Had King Xerxes (also Ahasureus in Hebrew) been given similar advice, he might not have made the rash, half-drunken decision he made in Esther 1:10-11. After Queen Vashti refused to parade before Xerxes' all-male party, in an effort by the king to show off his beautiful wife, he banished her from his kingdom and moved forward to choose a new wife. Later, in the second verse, we find Xerxes realized how much he missed Vashti but could not undo his drunken mistake of banishing her as the decree could not be rescinded.
Even the great Noah had a moment of poor judgment under the affects of alcohol, when, in Genesis 9:18-27, scripture described a moment in which Noah became drunk and fell asleep naked in a tent. His sons did their best to cover him without looking after his son, Ham, found his father naked in slumber. When Noah awoke and realized what happened, he cursed his son illustrating how drunkenness can effect the relationships with friends and family.
Finally, Proverbs 23:29-35 is among the best Bible verses regarding alcohol and drunkenness as they illustrate the by-products of drinking:
"Who has anguish? Who has sorrow? Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining? Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? It is the one who spends long hours in taverns, trying out new drinks," (Proverbs 23:29-30).
By drinking, these Proverbs provide that people can come to idolize alcohol, cause hallucinations, loss of internal censorship which speaking, staggered mobility, and eventual alcoholism.
While drinking might seem fun at the start, "in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper," (Proverbs 23:32).
If You Have a Drug or Alcohol Problem...
Remember, regardless of where you have been or where you are now, God can turn around everything and give you a fresh, new beginning. Scripture tells us that in Christ, all things are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17) and you can become a new creature, blessed, healthy and whole! Get in a good Bible based church, find a good alcohol or drug treatment program and don't be afraid to ask for help!
Whereas the lust of your flesh for drugs and alcohol is strong, I know your partnership with Christ will make you stronger to withstand the temptation and see you through to a full recovery.
Remember, "[t]he temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure," (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT).

Do You Believe Christ Gives Us the Right to Smoke Weed?

Lady Guinevere, medicinal marijuana, in some cases, isn't smoked but ingested, in which case I might see how that doesn't fit; these scriptures, as I know them, refers to otherwise healthy people smoking weed for the calming effect of the drug. As a result, that makes the drug a vehicle for sin and opens the user up to idolizing and craving the drug. That is not what God intends for us.
Yeah right!!! Have you ever met someone that needed it for the pain of MS? He didn't crave the drug and much as just wanting the pain to stop. He finally died of a massive heart attack not becasue of Mary Jan. You will get a bit of a different picture if you did more research in the Health Forum and from articles on the net. Sin is the lack and suppression of knowledge. Speaking of Idolizing what is being done with the Jesus on the cross and the ten commandments that tell us that we should not have any graven image of anything in the sky, on the ground or inthe water, or of anything in heaven.
Galations also says this:
22And the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,
23meekness, temperance: against such there is no law;
24and those who are Christ's, the flesh did crucify with the affections, and the desires;
25if we may live in the Spirit, in the Spirit also we may walk;
26let us not become vain-glorious -- one another provoking, one another envying!
You said it meetbrandon, God can turn around anything!!! Blessings!!!
The Greek word translated sorcery is the same word we derive the term Pharmacy from. The mixing and making of drugs -- chemicals. I could see it applied to meth and most things prescribed by a doctor, but not herbs -- whether in a dry form, oil or tincture. Consider the way Fluoride is being used to create docile people, by placing it in city water supplies
For the most part, I think we tend to be quite ignorant of the benefits of plants, even in a smoked form. I am not for 'weed' use, but in moderation, just as with alcohol, I don't think there is a problem with the plant. In the USA, it is illegal, and Christians are instructed to obey the laws of the land.
Well, I are with Lady G. and with Ivorwen. There is difference between use and abuse. And I agree ith you, as well.
"Long hours in the tavern" is alcoholism...what is self-destruction.
...bu somehow some people think that " God is showing them the way out" through the alcohol, drugs, medications...and believe that since the beginning of the time. What is sad fact.
Noah was not showing the future generations very good example!
I like your article.
Thanks for the comments everyone. While this is certainly a sensitive topic which offers a lot of different view points, I think ultimately its important to remember we share one consistent foundation, and that is Jesus Christ died for our sins that we might be redeemed and find everlasting life with Him in Heaven.
I appreciate your comments and goodwill.
Now where in the orginal Bible did it say "might"? He came to Save us all. He siad that we can do exactly what he did and much much much more and what was that? Not all is in the Bible either and so we can only go by the 10% that is in there. What about the other 90%? Is it not just as important? Everything has a reason, a season and a purpose. Nothing was left out of that.
Like I already said, Lady Guinevere, I am not debating this point with folks. Thanks.
You mis-understand me. When asking quesitons they are for you to ask yourself, not debate with anyone about.
Good day, good thinking and finding. Truth does not fear asking questions and gaining knowledge about things which they do not understand.
With all due respect, smoking pot never helped anyone I've ever known; in fact, I've seen pot rip apart my family and accompany such things as greed, anger, jealousy and adultry. All of which are condemned by God.
I think it is quite easy to tell where God sides on this when you look at the fruits by which potheads produce!
Hello Meetbrandon! I logged into my email this morning and saw that you had published a plethora of new hubs. What in the heck? I thought to myself. How can the man be sooo prolific? Then I saw the topics were all about laughing. What a neat idea! I am ostensibly working right now but will check out some of your funnies later, when I really need them!
Now, as to the topic at hand. I admit I am not a Bible scholar so will not quote you verses or debate King James vs. Gideon, etc. As a general observation, I believe the Bible warns us of overindulgence in any of the pleasures of the flesh. It does not say sex is sinful, but it can be. It does not say drinking alcohol is sinful. It does warn of the deleterious effects of drinking too much. Clearly, the goal is to stay clear-eyed, clear-headed and focused on living by Christ's example. Why are people always looking for the loopholes on that:-).
BTW, the line, "Get in a good Bible-based church..." sounds familiar to me. Did you perhaps here that at Lakewood:-)? Good, thought-provoking hub, sir. There is/was a similar discussion going on over on the forums -- about if Noah had smoked weed instead of drinking. Just FYI. MM
Well you have seen one side of the equation while I have seen the opposite. You cannot say that your side is all truth and that the side that I have seen is not the truth. Like I said you will find alot of information beyond your emotional aspects that you already have on the health forum--mind you not the religious forum.
Acts 2:18-20 (Young's Literal Translation)
18and also upon My men-servants, and upon My maid-servants, in those days, I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy;
19and I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath -- blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke,
Technically, everything we eat could be considered a drug. Hippocrates once said, "let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food" (Paraphrase). And these are some of the most true words that ever tickled my ears. But we do know some facts about all plants... God not only made all plants and called them all "good" (Gen 1:11-12), but also gave them to man to eat. (Gen 1:29-30). Now, God could have made hallucinagenic drugs during the fall of many when he made thistles. However, it's more likely that God simply changed the structure of already exsisting plants to give off thorns. Some examples that support this is the honey lotus, who's female offspring don't have thorns. And thorny amaranth vesus beautiful amaranths grown for food and decoration. Now hallucinagens could be the result of sin destroying what was once possibly something "good", and mutated it into a drug, which is very likely. Because there are other members of the Cannabid genus that do not produce the alkaloids for getting high. (Rom 8:22) "For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now." Indicating that it's very possible that these drugs are possibly just a curse-caused thing. But then what is defined as bad and good? Since it's not possible to make an exact distinction, we don't know. Could it just be the quantity that we use? God NEVER said drinking within itself was wrong in the least bit. Just the abuse of the substance was wrong. And although it doesn't take nearly as much alkaloids to get people into this state, you can simply take an amount that doesn't completely make you loose your mind.
God also told Ezekiel, while he was showing him how the temple of God is supposed to be, that the leaves of tree's will be considered medicine (Ez 47:12). Which implies that herbal therapy is a common practice among God's work. If that is true, that means that all chemicals form within plants created in the original perfect creation could be used for healing. And since people would never need medicinal plants in the garden of Eden (because the world was perfect within disease), it either was forknowledge of God to produce them (meaning he knew about cannabis' effects and approved), or that eating all herbs was a natural part of a perfect creation.
But, of course, It all depends on whether you think it's all right to do this. Think of this though, (1 Cor 10:31) "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." If you do get high, it would be a sin not to do it for the glory of God. Whether it's trying to become into this trance-like state in order to talk to God, or trying to come up with ideas for poetry or songs that glorify God. However, If you think it's sin, then it's sin to you. That was one of Paul's major doctrines. (Rom 2:15) " who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them". Sinning is sometimes relative to the conscience of the sinner. An example in Paul's time was how eating meat that was sacrificed for idols wasn't considered sin at all to eat if you believed in Jesus and knew in your heart that idols are vain. But he also warned them to be careful not to eat them in the presence of a "weaker" believer, because they might think it's sin, and see you do it. 1 corinthians 8 is a chapter devoted to that subject. Acts 24:16 "This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men." Also supports the second thesis. (1 Cor 10:29) "'Conscience,' I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?" Indicates that those pure of conscience have liberty, but we shouldn't do it for the sake of others in the same presence (The whole chaper should be read for a better understanding). (Titus 1:15) "To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled." also supports the theory.
The most compelling thing against marijuanna however is stated in (Hebrews 13:17) "Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you." Meaning the laws of the land your in should always be followed if it stays within God's will. Didn't Jesus also pay tithes to the church and give taxes to Caesar? We should follow his example.
However, in places where it's legal, without people who might think smoking is a sin, in an amount that doesn't disable you, for the glory of God, with a clean conscience... you may smoke marijuanna. Besides, God placed the receptors on the brain for that specific purpose. Because how can we say those chemicals are bad when our own bodies will produce similar substances?
Marijuana was made illegal in the U.S. because Rothchild invested heavy in the pharmaceutical industry. Marijuana eliminates the need for a lot of pharmaceutical drugs. Everything in moderation. Nice meeting you Brandon.
Mike
i like make money statement ,im with lady guinevere but meet brandon is right and robubba you the$
Hello Brandon, great hub. Dont let all the people ran by their flesh lead you to believe something else or give in because this is a great hub. I was a weed head pretty much all my life. A quick look into my past life; Before i went to bed i would already have my blunt's rolled up so that when i woke up in the morning i could just light them and smoke through out the day. I stayed high all the time smoking dirty weed, cotton weed, skunk weed, purple weed, and the all so famus hydo which i kept in a class jar.
But even when i was high i could never get high enough no matter what kind i smoked or how much i smoked! The reason why was because the high i was looking for was not in weed! What i was looking for was in Christ Jesus!!! I rember sometimes i would drive down the street high form smoking some skunk laced with nyquil, only going 15 miles a hour singing give me a clean heart, a song that i just happend upon.
I wanted to change and i knew this wasn't right, smoking weed, but the weed had a hold of me and wouldn't let me go. Until one day i met a brother who was like me but saved and filled with the Holy Ghost and wasn't scared to approach me and tell me there was something better than what i was smoking. He looked the part of a gansta and tallked the part of one but his presence was not that of one but rather someone you just wanted to be around and just chill with and even give a big hug. I could sense something different about him. I didnt know what it was about him then but i do now.
Anyway since he looked like someone who was from the streets like me and he wasn't scared to talk to me, i listened. He invited me to something called Man Power and i went! The Glory i was exposed to was so wonderful and mind blowing i could not explain, anyway i got saved, gave my life COMPLETLY over to Christ and INSTANTLY i was delivered from EVERYTHING that held me bound!!! I never smoked weed from that day forth and i have never wanted to again! So what im trying to say is that when God touches you FOR REAL you wont have to smoke weed, drink, smoke, or do drugs; in fact you wont want to anymore. Im a living witness!
And for Lady Guinevere, no the Bible doesn't speak on everything straight out about things and certain sins because Jesus covered everything when He said "all that is in the world is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life"! That covers all pionts and all sins in the world because every single sin in this world is under one of them pionts! So all satan has is three weapons. All you have to do is learn have to beat them, and you can!
God Bless Everyone
We are told to be sober and alert, so anything that makes you "not sober and alert" is against the will of God.
The apostles were accused of being drunk on the Day of Pentecost when they received the baptism of the Spirit. The Word tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, not drunk with wine.
Also, the fruit of the Spirit is self-control, so if something other than the Holy Spirit is controlling you, it's not of Him.
My husband and I disagree on this subject always and it can rip a family apart. He may not be doing anything to physically hurt me but it still hurts our relationship and I think of the future with my children. How will I ever teach them right from wrong when "daddy does it." My husband is not a saved man. However, I always ask him, if we do live in the time where we will witness the coming of Christ, what does he think will happen if he is sitting on the porch with a joint in his hand the day the Lord returns?????
Brandon, Thank you. Someone with not only common sense but also excellent research! I agree with you totally.
Lady Guinevere: In the bible you will find medicinal uses of herbs. I am completely satisfied that this covers pharmaceutical drug usage. There is a difference in using medication and getting "High".
You must also remember not all "Herbs" are good for you, would you smoke Atropa belladonna (deadly nightshade? I have a heart condition, there are a lot of Herbs and Teas I have to stay away from because they increase the heart rate.
God Bless you Brandon Keep the Faith and don't let everyone bring you down it happens sometimes. Amen
Sorcery means Magic or witchcraft.
I think most statements in d bible r lyk proverbs lyk jesus callin ur d light of d world, we r not actually light bulbs or torches bt source of truth nd direction dat light brings. So smokin marijuana for d highin effect shuld be considered sin cos its not of good virtue lyk paul implored us 2 be. So stop readin d bible lyk it was a book by charles darwin.
My younger brother died because of the so called weed. I tried it back in the day and I did not see any good in going around in a stooper, helucinating and being paraniod all day. For those who do need it for medicinal purposes there are less contraversal drugs that can do the same thing. Just because God made somthing does not mean it is for human consumption or use. Thorns and thissles, fangs and claws flesh eating all that came about because of the fall. I heard one preacher say that alcohol and drugs were given by God for the unregenerate man to find some form of peace. I disagree because all these things serve only to make life miserable for the rest of us.
Overall I think it is a great hub. Whether comments here confirm your writing or conflict with it, it is a worthy piece and a very interesting read. Many blessing to you in your writing efforts.
Wow, Excellent hub.
Wow MeetBrandon, Are you saying that people that who bake marijuana brownies and eat them are any different than those who smoke it? It has the same effect, wow, just more and more self righteous religious bullshit.
No Jacob, I never said that.
Thanks for reading.
Dude... despite what meetbrandon sounds like he is saying, the fact remains that Any mind altering substances is bad, and will have eternal effects that are the opposite of the "high" that you enjoy... what you just said about religion is wrong, and disrespectful. you just sounded like a frickn 2 year old when you typed it, and you have basicly stamped on your head, "RETARD WITHOUT MATURE DEBATE SKILLS"...
and in regards to baking brownies, or packin a joint, it is allllllll WRONG... IT IS ALL SINFUL... IT IS ALL UNPLEASING IN GOD'S EYES... IT IS ALL UNHEALTHY... and you need to go talk to someone and get some help NOW if you are addicted to any mind altering substance
yo meetbrandon... thank you... God bless you, and i pray that you can be strong in the spiritual fight... Keep it up, and God has a blessing waiting for people like you who are willing to take a stand... GOD BLESS
Some people are confused, speaking of personal interpretation or socially manipulated. For those that fit this category alow me to clear this matter up. Where in the bible does it say NOT to smoke it or let alone anything?
That is not rocket science. For anyone to try to manipulate the scripture to suit thier own agenda is more or less being a false profit. PERIOD. No acceptions.
If is says do it. Do it. If it says Dont. Dont. To assume because it doesnt say not to do something (especially un harmfull and natural) for instance wiping your nose. Are you confused or think its against his word?
Law of God clearly states not to kill, steal etc. Quit trying to turn a gray area one color or another. If you look at it like an instruction manual then would you not FOLLOW exactly?
Do and dont do. Remember that? Twist his words all you want. The proof is in the yes or no in the good book.
if your conscience is clean with God continue to smoke eat and grow it. Do not let false profits turn you into a sinner for conducting your phisical bodys functions. As there is no proof biblicaly or scientificly that marijuana is harmfull or a sin to anybody. Period!
Move onto something more worthy like the subject of aborsion etc
" Beer, proof positive that GOD loves us" Ben Franklin. IMO God laughs at what some people think is important.
Trust God and do good PS 37:4
Nicely put illusions of hope!
HA HA HA its hilarious to me the way that certain people will take certain things way out of context to suit there own needs. It is not o.k. to smoke marijuana PERIOD! (I didn't make the rules and I'm not saying that I like them). Sorry no weed. If you believe otherwise, then I guess it would be alright for me to head out to Colorado or Northern Cali and start growing a ton of this stuff for medical purposes. Why not I would be doing it to help those that really need it, right, WRONG I would be doing it for myself As groovy and profitable as that may sound It just isn't realistic where walking the Christian walk is concerned
cool Hub though. Peace
So pop your pills and get wired up on coffee and energy drinks and still be an
inspiring christian to us all. Partake in gossip and judgement as
well. Eat all the food you want and relish in gluttony. All of that
and many more is accepted socialy and religiously. But is against the word of God. Is this the christian walk you walk by and speak of?
Im sure it pleases God that there are religious drones out there
that succumb to conformity. God doesnt make mistakes. He made
cannabis. You nor any other man have a right to remove it or pass
judgement on it. Talk to him and relieve us as well as your self of
the ego pride that consumes you.
I have been smoking off and on for 30+ years. I read my bible everyday. I have fought myself on this subject for two decades. My husband says it affects me different than most people he knows. He does not smoke pot, it puts him to sleep immediatlly. I do have some anxiety issues that manifest in various forms. Life is stressful, and most of the time it is very overwhelming. I have three Children, two step daughters, a son-in law and two grandchildren. My husband has central nervous system damage from painting cars for 25 years and it has manifested in a spontaneous anger problem. I have been diagnosed with post traumatic stress. When many stresses build up, I get paralyzed. I can sit and stare all day, with all of it going through my head. I pray and pray and pray. I saturate myself with teachings and the word. My mind just goes so fast with everything that piles in my world. I will have many chores and work to do, but I just will sit. If I give in to my fight and smoke a bowl, it somehow breaks the paralysis. It will help motivate me and I will even do two or three things at a time. I am a very productive person, a hard worker and a moral person. My children have all grown to be great people of God. The biggest problem for me is that it does create a conflict. I want only to do what God wants for me. This is truely the fight of my life. I don't want to go against God. My mind tells me it is not ok because it is smoke in my body. My life tells me it helps me manuver through when my mental state stops me. I saw a special on TV about the different kinds of pot and how they effect people. The new "skunk or Kine" bug is very strong and caused the control group to show signs of mental illness. The other kind; what I call working mans pot, did not show the same brain activity at all. I will not smoke the new more potent kind. I know God has shown me that many ideas the main-stream church has is not in the book. I see for myself the effects of religion on society. I stuggle with the don't drink, or smoke but it is ok to judge and gossip doctrine that is rampant in our church. There is one women in my church that only wants "holy" people to come to church there. She is also the one that screams in toungues without an interpreter. I think we should all go by the book. Church (especially denominational) just puts God in a man's box. God is HUGE. I think it is sad that any of us think we understand even a small portion of what was, is and is yet to come. I continue to fight myself, for me that is the true sin here: Confliction. I was told once that pot greives the Holy Spirit, I know for a fact the "Holy Spirit has been with me and guided me when I was high. My daughter got a head injury and we were told she would not make it. I had just finished smoking when the call came in. I paniced and rushed to get ready to go to town. The Holy Spirit flooded me and told me she was in God's hands. I felt a peace come over me and I knew God was at work. I did not know if it mean she would live or die, I just knew God was in charge. She fully recovered, it has been a few years now, thank the Lord. God is always at work in my life. Daily I get confirmations of the lessons he wants to teach me. I would love to know the real truth about this subject and not just opinions of people. I did take one thing from your post, the part about socery and pharmacy. I was a nurse for 13 years. I loath the pharmacutical outbreak in our country, especially the whole antidepressant and ridalin epidemic. I don't drink or take pills because I like to be able to stay in control of myself. Many would like to separate God and science. God's laws are natures laws. I would like to have a direct word from God on this subject, the word he gave us is too unclear. As for me, the battle rages on and I stand on Romans 3. All fall short. Not that is it ok, to fall short and do what you know is wrong, but to know his Grace is sufficient. When I am sure it is wrong I am sure I will stop.
That was powerful and heart felt. I admire your personal relationship with God. Something that I think lacks in the world today. People perhaps out of fear or being lazy rely on the " assemblies" of saints (or church as we call it) To rule and govern their thoughts and actions. There is nothing wrong with that. But to limit ones self to dependency and conformity of the house is lazy and spiritless. Yes the word says to assemble. But to base a spiritual growth on that is like a seedless fruit.
And like wise the word of God as well. I say that because interpretation is the key factor that regulates what the ears hear. Lets not forget the bible was written thousands of years ago. In a language that is not our own. As with any language a single word can have different meanings or spellings. A word can at the time of publishment have a meaning. However thousands of years later when the user of that word applys it the present day context purpose of it is lost or obsolete. Thats due to an ever changing world..
Heres an example:
The word plaque. Am I talking about that stuff found on teeth, or that thing that hangs on a wall? And if the word is missinterperted one could think its a deadly disease (plague). And throw in another language and that makes for confusion for readers. For the publisher it leaves a door of opportunity to pick and choose what meaning each word shall have. As well as delete otherwise vital elements. Lets note who published the bible. Most of us know of the writers.
Having lived in the south "bible belt" for over ten years I have came to the conclusion that the majority rely on or unconsciously labor in their spiritual growth strictly based on obedience.
Again nothing wrong with it nor am I saying to disobey. The point is spiritual growth is not obtained through obedience alone. The lazy, ignorant, or content ones use that as a method of transportation through this physical world on earth. In everyone elses eyes those people are spiritual because they notice the obedience. Talking to God and having a relationship comes first and foremost. Pray without cease is a understatement. And why stop there? Try looking through the Fathers eyes. Feel his hurt, take in his joy, understand his anger. Step back and look at what people and society do to shape the way you think, speak, and feel.
Just imagine thousands of years ago it was illegal to be a christian. And in turn many people died. Also many people killed others for the cause of christianity or a religion. We know what the fathers word says about murder. Go beyond that and look through his eyes.
How would you feel if one of your children murdered another. Would you forgive them if they repented. Would you condone their cause? Well if it was for you then both causes are the same arent they! Would you grade you children based on their love for you? Or would you love them all the same?
Ofcourse we all parent different. God is love so you can only imagine that his love has no bounds. (this is where people get confused or think that its okay to disobey because no mater what They will be loved)
Imagine how God must feel about us bickering over a plant. Imagine how God feels about peoples lives becoming punished because they choose to use this plant. How would you like it if your child told the other child Mom wont love you if you do this. Mom wont let you in her house anymore because she says that is evil and so forth. Would you be angry and hurt? Especialy when you said nothing of the sort. Again you would love both children the same. And although you may not think that your childs use of this plant is helping them love you more. They still desire to come in your house but the other child is telling them they cant come in. That they have in writing from you that using this plant is bad. Wouldnt you be hurt that the child is Telling them they are wrong and you dont want them. Angry that your words are twisted?
Now the child that uses this plant is angry because he knows his mom loves him. He talks to his mom everyday. He desires to be with mom and this plant has nothing to do with his love for his mom.
As a mater of fact this child discovered this plant in his moms garden that she planted in her own back yard. Hows that for perspective? It should not be a destraction from your relationship with God. On the contrary if it helps you in life then the people that tell you it is a destraction ARE the destraction.
Hi Brandon,
You may well feel that sorcery refers to weed or hash, personally I believe it refers to what the Greek word defines; Pharmaceutical products, which are chemical medicines, rather than natural remedies.
As for it being against scripture, you will need to answer the following verse and be able to redefine 'defile' before you could substantiate that claim:
Mark 7:17-19 (King James Version)
17And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
19Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
Smoking may not be the most advantageous activity for a believer, but ANYTHING consecrated to God and consumed with good conscience is acceptable to God (your elders and your pastor of course may be a different kettle of fish).
Most people do NOT have a good conscience about things they consume, but whether it's chocolate or hash cakes, the sin would be using it when YOU thought it was bad, and THAT could kill you, not the consumption, but the lack of good conscience.
Finally, I believe this also covers the topic:
Romans 14:2-4 (King James Version)
2For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
Not many people know this but God did condemn drugs, especially, herbal drugs like Ganga, and anything that is mind altering, coming from herbal origins.
Eze:8:17: Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
Seems like sniffing and smoking is the problem.
More like not many people know why they say God condems marijuana.Where is your proof then? Show me where GOD condems it? Im speaking of marijuana ofcourse he didnt make drugs. HUMANS did .What dont you understand about GOD made marijuana? Are you telling us as well as him that he made a mistake when he made it? What do you think he gave us to use as medicine? He gave us water to quinch thirst. Animals for meat.So on and so on. You have many versus about herbs and plants presented before you here and in the bible.
And the best you can come up with is to argue is something about a branch? Do you know what a branch is? Do you know what it means? What kind of branch? Ha gee was it calamus? Or maybe a branch of denomination or worse? Not a physical branch! That passage is about sun worship. The writer speaks of seperation from God and his body or house (church) . Branching out. As i said before do not twist the words of God. Eat your snack take your nap and then go to time out. Nice try. NEXT please
In gennisus GOD made pot plant, "any herb that bears seeds and fruit of the plant.
I Beieve kin GOD 1st as my master.......
meanpeace
You sound pretty much smoked up and protecting your own little garden herbs
You obviously dont read a bible so its pretty evident that your maturity and knowledge stay in the same plain, hence your blindness, walk in the light brew not the cloud off green stuff.
haha
I read the bible every day. And no i dont even smoke or USE marijuana. So now what say you? For such and expert on the bible how come you did not know that the verse you quoted is about sun worship? Furthermore where is your evidence to support your theory that God didnt make Marijuana? Wheres is your evidence to say that it is a sin? Try finding one that you dont have to mold like clay in order to suit your ego. Take all the time you need and dont forget to pray about it.
The Bible people were doing the kinkiest drugs and sex all along in the Bible stories. From inhaling the smoke of “burning bushes” to doing some mushroom specialties as depicted by the mushroom shaped bonnets worn by the High Priests of God’s Holy Temple! God prescribed hard liquor offering to be poured on the altar of the LORD, too. No wonder the Bible God is so psychedelically oriented… and the theologians today go crazy trying to figure out what is that God is trying to say in the Bible INSTEAD OF GOING DIRECTLY TO THE SOURCE TO FIND OUT FOR THEMSELVE… AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU…!!! It is said that drugs make you feel one nature with God!!! You must bear in mind that for the first 300 years since the inauguration of the Temple of Solomon it was fully equipped with shrines for male and female prostitutes! So when Jesus went about saying, “my Father and I are one” he must have meant something more than just plain Holy rhetoric… If you do any Bible research work you MUST consider ALL PRECEDENTS and clues in the Bible not a few poached verses here and there to promote a particular prudish morality for the lay population that is contrary to the Bible stories! That is why I dropped out of Christianity!
Genesis 30:15-16 (NIV) But she said to her, “Wasn't it enough that
you took away my husband? Will you take my son's mandrakes too?”
“Very well,” Rachel said, “he can sleep with you tonight in
return for your son's mandrakes.”* (*Check “mandrake” in
Wikipedia! It is a hallucinogenic drug plant. Leah’s son was
obviously a very knowledgeable teenager, too!) So when Jacob came in
from the fields that evening, Leah went out to meet him. “You must
sleep with me,” she said. “I have hired you with my son's
mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.* (*they probably had
plenty of mandrakes to go around that night, too…! Surely Rachel
didn’t keep all the mandrakes for herself. Rachel turned out to be
quite a dominatrix!) Not even Hustler magazine would publish such a
Bible stories promoting a particular drug. The morality of most of
these raunchy publications today is commendable!!! The Bible ought to
be censored!!! Oh it is thats right, because you did not know this did you people? How come there is no cermons or sunday lessons on mandrakes and this?? No drugs in the bible huh?
i been around people who uses drugs and one of them are my family member. I need advise and prayers for my family. i cant take to see them using it but i dont know what to do. I am really overwhelmed about this. somebody help me.

Where is the anger and sarcasm coming from? Meanpeace is not your enemy, he is just a person. God is Love. This is a place to learn and share, not fight and be mean. Anger is by far more harmful to EVERYBODY than smoking pot. I see so many "Christians" who are angry-Why?
Hey I have another question-Has anyone else caught the fact that John had to take a scroll and put it on his tongue (it was bitter in taste and sour to his stomach) in order to prophesy Revelation. What does that paper sound like to you? I remember finding this with a group of friends in college in the 70's. I haven't thought about it for years until I read Repostits post. I think that God is so big we will never understand all of it here on Earth. I told my husband I thought the answers are all in the Bible, it is just a matter of understanding. He disagreed.
Thats true hopeforpeace. I battle with anger myself. You made a valid point.
And yes you are correct. We will never understand everything. Wisest is he who knows how little he knows. The important thing is to NOT stop questioning. And a final note that suits the judgement of those that use marijuana: Conscience, I say , not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience 1 corinthians 10:29
I agree with what you said in this hub. I wasn't aware of the Greek translation of the word "sorcery."
Any time you turn to any outer substance to make yourself feel better emotionally, you are basically saying that you cannot feel better emotionally without taking some sort of substance, and this viewpoint takes you away from God and away from truth. When you have no fear, guilt, or judgment (caused by false beliefs you were brainwashed with by society); and when you follow God's good advice in the Bible, then you will feel free and peaceful inside of yourself and will have no need or desire to smoke marijuana or drink alcohol or take any kind of drug. The issue is about addiction and what inside of you causes you to become addicted to outer substances.
The second issue is that when you take any type of drug, this attracts to you entities who will try to influence your behavior in other areas (such as sex before marriage). The Devil and his entities know that if you are turning to drugs to feel better, then they can influence you to turn even farther away from God. A person who is in false beliefs and fear can be more easily turned away from God's good advice.
People are confused or deny that marijuana is a medicine NOT a drug. God made plants, herbs, spices, etc for medicine. He knew we would have sickness. He also knew that drug companys wouldnt be around for for such a long time. So man needed these plants for survival. Through social, thechnolgical, and political "advancement" we have through evolution changed our perspective on these plants. (some people have not).
The point is that God made this plant for a reason. Satan did not manifest it, did he? In the begining he made all plants and said they were good. I
Believe HIM not MAN. He does not make mistakes. We do.
Let me see, the most profitable drug in the history of the world (aspirin) was found in the bark of a willow tree. Digitalis, from foxgloves, is prescribed to millions of heart patients. Insulin was extracted from mice, until researchers found a less cruel way to create it artificially. Quinine, a popular treatment for malaria, is extracted from the cinchona tree. Paclitaxel, an up-and-coming cancer treatment, is made from yew bark.
Big pharmaceutical companies are businesses heavily built on natural chemicals.
Cannabis aka marijuana has many great attributes.
1. Cannabis leaves, flowers and seeds are not narcotic. When the seeds are ground as flour, they provide up to 24% protein, and all the amino acids necessary for human nutrition.
2. Cannabis seeds contain Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids in a perfect balance for human cardiac and mental health.
3. Cannabis seed oil, which is non-narcotic and identical to hemp oil, can be used in cooking, for energy, and as a health supplement.
4. Cannabis fibers can be used for biodegradable plastics, fuel, textiles, livestock bedding, construction materials, paper, packaging and many other products...
5. Cannabis is not physically addictive like tobacco, alcohol, or many over-the-counter drugs.
6. Cannabis is safer to use than tobacco and alcohol, which together cause 100 times more deaths than the total combined deaths resulting from all other illegal drugs.
7. Cannabis used in a mix with tobacco mitigates the cancer and heart disease impacts of tobacco.
8. Cannabis, used moderately, in conjunction with harm minimization techniques, does not adversely affect motor coordination, driving skills, cognitive skills, workplace safety, lung function, quality of work, or motivation in experienced smokers.
9. The estimated LTD50% (lethal toxic dose for 50% of subjects) for Cannabis is 750kg to be consumed within fifteen minutes, a physical impossibility. (Cannabis is safer than sugar!)
10. No deaths have ever been caused by the use or abuse of Cannabis in over 5000 years.
11. The psychoactive ingredient in Cannabis, THC (delta 9-Tetrahydrocannibinol), is useful for the treatment of pain, nausea, asthma, colds and flu, menstrual cramps, alcoholism, Crohn’s disease, spastic colon, muscular spasm in Multiple Sclerosis, glaucoma of the eye, AIDS-related wasting, motor neuron disease, mental irritability, depression, bipolar disorder (depressive phase), and drug addiction and it is supportive in radiation and chemotherapy against cancer.
12. Cannabis boosts melatonin levels in our body by up to 4000%. Melatonin is a natural brain hormone, which is a powerful antioxidant. Melatonin soaks up free radicals produced by our metabolism. Free radicals have been shown to cause cancer and other diseases and are involved in the aging process.
13. Cannabis is neuro-protective. It decreases brain cell death induced by alcohol and other toxins as well as diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and stroke. As an antioxidant and neuroprotectant, it slows aging.
14. Cannabis helps prevent and cure cancers. Lab studies have shown and anti-tumor effect on deadly gliomas of the brain and other forms of malignancies. The Endocnnabinoids kill cancer cells by surrounding them and cutting off the blood vessels that help the cancer grow. And the list goes on folks. We will never discover all bexauae its illegal. And you know God is aware of what it does. Has been since he made it!
And as for using it to alter the mind or "happiness". We all do that with anything from coffee to a sad movie that makes us cry. Think about that. Have you ever watched a really sad movie and cried all day? Or how about a happy movie that changed your life. Was that not a distraction from God? Did God make movies? Do you have a show that you just HAVE to watch?? Or else it upsets and ruins your day? Think about it alot?
Do you crave ice cream before bed? And just have to have it!? Arent the same without that morning cup of coffee? Drink coffee all day? Cokes?
EVEREYONE is addicted or altered by something. To judge wich is right and wrong is a sin. Are you saying you are God? Ofourse not. Leave judgement up to him. Is a overweight christian less of a sinner than a pot smoker? Gluttony remember that????????
Actually, there is a difference between baking it and ingesting it compared to smoking it. Smoking weed is harmful to the lungs, which are part of your body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Obviously, your lungs aren't harmed eating weed-brownies.

Anyone who goes to a doctor or physician and gets drugs is doing this. The pharmaceutical companies have just about everyone on some kind of drug. Which version of that Bible are you using for some it says things a bit differently. Also the verses that you used to describe things in Galations you should also add the rest of them for a more clearer pupose. Everything in moderation and everything in it's own time and each has it's own purpose.
In the OT it states that every single plant on this earth is for us to consume--every single one.
