Which Is The Toughest Bicycle Race In The World?
Many bicycle racers believe that the toughest bicycle race in the world is the Race Across America or RAAM as it is also known as. Others believe that the toughest bicycle race is one of the fabled Le Grand Tour races including the Tour de France which is acknowledged by most racers as being the ultimate in bicycle racing on this planet. What distinguishes the toughest bicycle race from the others is that the former is far removed from the race-around-the-park kinds of bicycle races. However, no one will deny that the Tour de France is in fact one of the most eagerly anticipated of all bicycle races on this planet.
Tour De France Or RAAM?
The only question that remains unanswered is whether the Tour de France is tougher than the Race Across America. Given the fact that RAAM road race involves, for the most part, amateur riders it could be said that this race is tougher than the Tour de France simply because racers participating in the RAAM race will need to finance themselves when taking part in the race. In the case of races such as the Tour de France professional riders with sponsorship, expert levels of support and best trainers around to help them are in a different racing world altogether.
A racer taking part in the RAAM bicycle race may also have to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to train by cycling for long distances before coming home to take care of the home and family and then they will need to hold down a daytime job to earn enough money with which to pay for expenses involved in being a road racer.
Nevertheless, all these difficulties notwithstanding, these racers will, year after year, continue to arrive from different parts of the world and line up on the lovely shores near the Pacific Ocean to be one of the many trying to win this bicycle race that will see them cover more than three thousand miles till they reach the east coast.
Given the unique racing conditions it is safe to conclude that RAAM is certainly the toughest bicycle race in the world and even in terms of distance covered the racers need to race for eight hundred and six miles more than is the case with the Tour de France.
The most famous Italian bicycle race is the Giro d’Italia or The Giro as it is popularly called. This is a long distance bicycle race that involves professional bicyclists that spend about three weeks and is part of the Grand Tours.
