So.......it's finally arrived - Big Brother returns to the United Kingdom!

And it is bigger than ever, throwing in 16 housemates together for the first time, including a real life couple, who are already causing quite a stir. Davina is back, bringing her usual madness with style to the proceedings, and you'll see from the information blogged that the various opinions, dirt dishing and hot stories have already started.

In light of the pasting Channel 4 took from Ofcom during earlier series, coupled with media outcry prompted by scenes of bullying and sex, the critics are ready to jump on the slightest controversy on the show. So it's not surprising that there is negative talk of "flogging a dead donkey", and "seen it all before, so isn't this a bit boring" thrown in amongst the disapproving press coverage, before the contestants even got a chance to air their characters.

Well, I may be in danger of upsetting many here, but I for one am glad its back. Yes, there has been some previous bad press, and people don't talk about the programme any more with the same gusto and enthusiasm that they used to, but I think we need a reality check here (excuse the pun!!)

What do I mean you ask?

Well.....life is what I mean. Any of us who have lived on this planet for a good few years now know it's tough. There's no mincing words here - stages of pain both mentally and physically ebb and flow; it's unfair at the best of times when we feel we have done all to impress; disappointment when people let you down is to be expected and many of us often feel and act like we are lost souls. So let's stop pretending that the bad situations that have happened with past housemates, don't occur in real life. We throw ours arms up in horror, with mouths agasp, hypocritically judging others, when we openly see such antics happening every day. Either at work, home or play, people can and are rude, nasty, arrogant, self centred and narrow minded to name a few destructive characteristics, which eventually rear their ugly head by some form of subconscious action.

We collectively revel and shirk at both Big Brothers evil twists and turns, and housemates distasteful treatment of each other, but the intense trials and tribulations of a small group, condensed into 1 house over a relatively short period of time, in my mind, simply reflects what we have to deal with in the real world. The bona fide frequencies and patterns are to an extent, outwith our control, unexpected and indeterminable, with the only difference being that we can run and hide, deny or avoid uncomfortable circumstances. The housemates can't, and either have to face their fears, or request removal from the house (effectively running again!).

The question is this?

Are we maybe not willing to accept the rawness of humans beings cruelness and lack of empathy in the face of perceived threat, diversity, and sheer entertainment?

So lets all lighten up a bit, and not take it all too seriously. Enjoy the bold and the brave; the naive and the innocent; and finally the heroes and the villains. Whatever this season brings us in what is still ultimately a controlled environment, surely it can't be worse that the truly sad and depressing news and events I read daily in the newspapers on my commute to work.

As William Shakespeare quoted from As You Like It -

"All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players:

They have their exits and their entrances:

And one man in his time plays many parts,

Its acts being seven ages"

Shakespeare will be smiling down on us. So to end on a positive note, let us not over dramatise this particular stage in question, or judge its success or failure. Enjoy its simplicity for what it is, and the adventure it takes us on, with the hope that in the event of minor short lived adversity, some form of goodness prevails.

This is my first ever hub or blog (hope I'm using the right terminology), so after you've read this, please do add comments for me to read. Unlike other hubbers, I'm alot slower at writing articles, and not used to being able to freely vent my opinions. But I've found it amazingly refreshing, fun, and stimulating, and so will definitely continue to hub, which is why I welcome any feedback on either my style, set up and quality, as well as an open forum on my articles opinion as a whole. Regarding this article, I'll update the video clip each time there is an eviction, so log in, to see who goes?
