Advice from the Biggest Loser's Bob Harper

Bob Harper: Fix Your Fridge!

Changing your eating habits means changing your cooking habits...which means changing your kitchen. Facing down a refrigerator full of ice cream and bacon makes it all the more difficult to grab that apple in the produce bin.

Biggest Loser Club fitness expert Bob Harper's advice:

Eliminate the problem. Clean house!

Get rid of temptation foods. Don't even bring them in. Clean out all cabinets, refrigerators. (Don't forget the back of the freezer.)

Restock. Fill the shelves with healthy choices. Remember, "If it grows out of the ground, or you can pick it off a tree, chances are that it's good for you."

Buy yourself a few pitchers to fill with water for drinking. Keep some boxes of Crystal Light in the cabinet to sweeten water, if you like.

Purchase some measuring cups, so you know the portion size before you cook. If you don't have measuring cups available (say, they're in the dishwasher), use your fist to figure out correct portions. "From chicken breasts to veggies to fruit, just about every portion you'll eat is the size of your fist."

Set the table with candles, placemats, and nice china. "Make dining a pleasant ritual. Sit down and enjoy your food rather than eating on the go." Slowing down gives you time to get full and...taste.

Bob Harper: Keeping it Healthy in the Face of Fast Food

Standing in a cloud of frying hamburger smells, it seems impossible. You can't eat at a fast food place. You will have to leave your friends at the counter immediately and eat alone. Or break all your new promises to yourself and break your diet.

Stop right there. The Biggest Loser Club fitness expert Bob Harper is here to save the day.

Bob's Strategies:

Salad Solutions: "These days every fast-food place has salads. Order one or even two plain salads if you are hungry. Then order your favorite burger or sandwich without the bun and make yourself a big salad with plenty of protein from your sandwich. You will feel full, and you have avoided the fries and the buns. As far as the salad dressing, get two tablespoons of whatever it is you want and toss the rest."

Hamburger Solutions: "If salads aren't your thing, fine, go with your sandwich. Order it without the bun and absolutely no mayo or special sauce of any kind." Skip the cheese too.

Sandwich Solutions: "Grilled chicken is always on menus now. Go for it. But stay away from the fish, because it's probably fried."

The only thing you must, must, must do is (gulp) skip the fries and onion rings. But remember that you're not alone. "I know you like the fries," Bob says. "I do too, but we are on a mission to lose weight and those fries are only going to get in the way of our progress."

Eating healthy could seem like a challenge, but it's one that you're ready for!
