Bihon for the Brain The NBA Badboy's Flipside
62Ron Artest's Greatest Play
At this point (week 3) the Raiders might be packing up soon. So let's look at basketball. My buddy Jeremiah has been telling me about these funny, Ron Artest Filipino Clips. Ron Artest, in my mind, is a great player. He's a tenacious defender, that's very capable of putting up 20 a game. Heck, with his hustle, he's one of my favorites in the NBA. This play is what sums it up. It's the craziest sports thing I ever seen. I remember watching it live.
Every Bad Boy's Flipside
But apparently, the NBA's Bad Boy has a soft side...a Flip Side. I say Flip as in Filipino. The man is an honorary Filipino as seen here singing karaoke with his Filipino family. Not just karaoke, but a Celine Dione hit.
Food for thought
And it doesn't stop there. Here he's eating the greatest Filipino desert in the universe...Halo Halo!!! Ice shavings mixed with native Philippine fruits, beans, and ice cream. It's awesome. It's cool seeing celebs enjoying our cultural food. This dude is pretty funny.
This one explains it all. Artest crashes a Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto presscon, and unveils his Pinoy identity. Apparently his baby mama is Filipina and has a Filipino son. He then proceeds to give props to the Pacman. I'd like to see him say kamusta to Fil-Am NBA Head Coach Erik Spoelstra next time the Lakers play the Heat.
This is cool to have a non Filipino representing the Philippines by indulging in the culture. A fellow reporter once floated this idea of how many Pro Athletes and Celebs have Filipino Baby Mamas and Wives. I know Robin Williams' ex-wife is Pinay. While I was leaving the Raiders game once I met a Filipino family who was close friends with Coach Tom Cable. Dennis Rodman's dad is living in the Philippines and has a family out there. The possibilities are endless. Ron Artest...You are an honorary Filipino, actually more Filipino than some Filipinos I know.
No knock on Superfreak Pitcher Tim Lincecum, but Lincecum doesn't talk about his Pinoyness. I understand there's a straind relationship with him an his mother. In the case of the newest Laker, by hooking up with a Pinay and giving birth to a Filipino (who knows in a few years, he might make it to the NBA) the Philippines has a new ally. It's unknown if he has been there, he should actually go there a become an enforcer. A hell bent baller, who will knock a fan out.
