Bikini hair removal is a great way to get rid of the unwanted hair, but because it is a rather personal area, many people worry about how to go about doing it, and what they should do to get the best results. The following is a look at some of the important aspects to consider when looking into bikini hair removal, especially bikini hair removal using laser technology:

1.    Experience.

There are many ways to remove unwanted hair from the bikini area, these include: waxing, shaving, lasers, etc. For this article we will be looking at laser hair removal. If you are having your bikini hair removed using lasers, it is essential that you find a physician that knows what they are doing and has a lot of experience. Laser hair removal of the bikini area is dependent on such factors as hair color, skin color, hair strand thickness and density. Because these factors play such a large part in the results you will see, it is a good idea to find a physician with ample experience at bikini hair removal using lasers so that they can do your evaluation and choose the most appropriate laser or similar light source for the procedure in order to help you get the best results. Lasers are medical devices that require a high level of expertise to be used safely. Choosing physician offices that specialize in not just laser hair removal, but of the region you are interested in, the bikini area, not only increases the chances for effectiveness but also the safety of the procedure.

2.    Sanitation.

The reason it is best to choose laser hair removal for removing unwanted bikini line hair is that laser reduce or eliminate razor bumps and redness. Removing unwanted hair from the bikini region is a good idea because it is a common area for folliculitis, inflammation and infection of the hair follicles. This is itchy and painful, and can often also be accompanied by the unpleasant effect of hyperpigmentation and darkening of the skin. Fortunately, if you choose the right physician, the laser has been very helpful in reducing or eliminating, hair growth and diminishing infection and the site effects of it in this region. So, for health purposes it can be a good idea to eliminate some of the hair in this region, not just for aesthetic reasons.

3.    Effectiveness.

While you can choose other methods for removing unwanted bikini line hair, lasers are very effective treatment options. Other methods, including, electrolysis, depilatory creams, shaving or waxing has limitations that lasers do not. Some methods are extremely painful, short lived, cause issues, or are ineffective. However, laser bikini hair removal means that in just a few treatments, three t six, you will see a permanent reduction in the majority of the pubic hair. It is a quick treatment option that is well tolerated, and the results are both aesthetically and cosmetically pleasing, and result in reduced irritation and redness in the hair follicles.

How to wax your bikini line

If you are going to wax your bikini line you want to plan ahead. For the best results you will want to shave the area to the shape you want, and then allow the stubble to grow back in. Once it is about a fourth of an inch long (which may take a few weeks), you should then wax the area.

Once the hair is the right length you want to thoroughly wash and dry the area to be waxed.

After thoroughly washing the bikini area, you have to make sure to dry all the crevices, as the wax will not work if the skin is damp. You may want to use some powder to help keep the area really dry.

If your bikini line hair is longer than a fourth of an inch you may want to trim it down, you can still wax longer hair, but it is usually far more painful if it is longer.

Next you want to apply the wax to the skin. When you do this you will want to follow the growth of the hair. Also, make sure the temperature is right before sticking it on your skin, you would not want to burn yourself.

You will then smooth the wax using the cloth strip, and then pull the wax off in the opposite direction you applied it. If you want to get the best results you remove hair against the direction it is growing. Because hair in the bikini line grows in several directions, you may need to work in several directions.

Because the bikini line is a sensitive area, you want to treat just a small area at a time. If it really hurts, move to a less sensitive area for a while.

Once you have waxed the entire area, you will want to use tweezers to remove any stray hairs.

After all unwanted hair is removed you will want to clean and disinfect the area. Do this by treating it with hydrogen peroxide or an alcohol-free astringent. This will help you to avoid infections. If you use alcohol products it will sting and likely hurt pretty badly.

Put some pressure on the area to soothe it, and use an aloe-based lotion to help the area to stop hurting.

Are you a good candidate for bikini hair removal using lasers?

While there are many benefits, as can be seen above to having your bikini hair removed using laser technology, not everyone is a good candidate for these procedures, and in some cases you simply should not try it. While a physician will do an evaluation, it is good to know what you should expect if you want to get this done. Basically the bikini line is a good place to get laser hair removal because the hairs in that area tend to be relatively shallow, making them good candidates for laser hair removal. However, you may not be. For the lasers to work effectively, the light energy they put off needs to be absorbed by the hair, and it effectively kills the follicle so that it will fall out and not grow back.

If you have light skin and dark colored hair, you are an ideal candidate. Laser targets the pigment in the hair, and the darker the better because it means it will not reflect the laser light, and it will absorb it better. However, a laser can't tell the difference between dark hair and dark skin, so it will also heat up dark skin. This can cause the skin color to change, and it can last for months. In addition, if you have really light hair in that area, it will likely reflect the light, rather than absorb it, and thus the process won't work. So, the most ideal candidates are those with light skin, dark hair, and no tan. Thus no tanning right before your hair removal surgery, and do not plan to lay in the sun right after either, as in some cases, getting sun right after the procedure can cause skin discoloration in that area.  So, the best time to get this procedure done is in the winter when you have no vacations planned.

For the most part you will see that if you have bikini hair removal done you will see at least one third, and more likely two thirds hair reduction in your pubic area, and any hair you do have will be thinner and lighter. If you simply want the bikini line done, and not the whole pubic region, you may see no hair there at all. Bikini hair removal is not just something that is done in women, men enjoy the benefits of reduced hair in the pubic region as well.

If you think you  would benefit from bikini hair removal using laser technology, look into it, determine if you are a good candidate, and look for professionals in your area that offer these treatments.

The following is a look at what the process of getting your bikini hair removed using lasers will be like:

Step 1: You will meet with a technician or physician or technician to see if you are a good candidate for laser hair removal. If you are, you will then have a time set up for you to come in and get treatment. During the initial evaluation, cost, time frame, etc., will be discussed.

Step 2: When you go in for your treatment, a technician will give you a pair of paper panties. They will instruct you to strip from the waist down, and put them on. When they come back in the room you will be asked to lay on a table with your legs splayed apart.

Step 3: The technician will put a jelly-like goo onto all the soon-to-be-lasered spots.
The jelly used is put on you to protect your skin and offers some sort of barrier from the heated light.

Step 4: At this point the technician will get the laser out. It is typically a wand type of laser, however, they do vary, and some are hand held, while others are computer operated. Basically, the technician will hold the laser near your skin, and they will give you some glasses to protect your eyes from the light.

Step 5: The procedure begins, and the technician will work along the bikini line. There is a little bit of pain, it feels somewhat like a rubber band snapping the skin, but it is far less painful then waxing is. The laser will pulse light, and you will feel a snap each time it does this. The technician will continue to move it along the bikini line until all of the unwanted hair is pulsed with light.

Step 6: When the procedure is over, the technician will clean up the jelly, and may disinfect the area to help you avoid any sort of infection. They technician will tell you how long it takes before the hair will fall out, and when to come in for an additional treatment.  It usually takes about two weeks for the hair to fall out, and at that point a new cycle of hair may be growing in, and then you will go in for another treatment. Usually it takes about six treatments to kill the hair follicles so that your hair does not grow back. You usually wait a month between treatments.

Before you go in for a laser hair treatment you need to make sure you have hair for the laser to zap. Basically, like waxing you do not want to shave for at least a week, and be sure your hair is at least a quarter inch long or more. The technician can use an electric razor to get it to the right length, so do not worry about it being too long.

Do not take aspirin after the procedure as it can cause bruising. If the area is painful to you, then use a numbing cream. Your technician should tell you about some options.

Lastly, do not expose the area to the sun or a tanning bed after the treatment. Because it can take several months to get the full effects, you may want to start treatment during months you won't be exposing the area to sun, and if you want to tan, etc. during that time, just cover up, and limit exposure as it can cause your skin to burn, and the effects to be less.
