Laser hair removal is a wonderful way for getting rid of unwanted hair on the body. One of the most common areas for laser hair removal is the bikini line. The bikini hair removal is dependant upon the hair color, skin color, and hair density of the individual. There are several ways to remove bikini hair; the most common include plucking, shaving, waxing, and creams. The only problem with all of the above methods is that they are only temporary and the hair will grow back, sometimes thicker and darker than it was before. Laser hair removal is the only permanent solution for permanent hair removal or reduction. When the hair is zapped with the laser, it will grow back thinner and lighter and normally falls out within a few days.

When individuals try the other methods to remove their bikini hair, they often end up with ingrown hairs. These ingrown hairs become inflamed and itchy. Some people even obtain painful lesions from the ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal is effective at treating the ingrown hairs and preventing new ingrown hairs from occurring. Most patients that are treated for bikini laser hair removal are women. The laser will send a low-energy beam through the skin, penetrating the dark pigment of the skin, called the melanin. The melanin is present in the shaft of the hair follicles. The initial laser hair removal treatment will target the hair that is currently growing in its cycle. Each hair grows according to a cycle, so patients will need to have multiple treatments if they expect to have all the hair removed. Within about a week or two after the initial treatment, the hair will start to fall out and can easily be removed from the skin.

Depending upon the facility, they may use various lasers for their treatments. Most facilities have the intense pulse light (IPL) laser that works for individuals with light skin and dark hair. New lasers have been produced, allowing individuals with darker skin to have laser hair removal treatments. The new laser is called the Nd:YAG laser, this laser uses a longer wavelength to reach the melanin.

Before anyone can be treated with laser hair removal, they must visit their doctor or dermatologist. The dermatologist will assess the thickness of the hair and discuss the current hair removal options you have been trying. If you shave, wax, or use creams to remove the unwanted pubic hair, you must allow it to grow out before receiving laser hair removal. If you have any sexually transmitted diseases, you must inform the doctor that will be performing the laser hair removal. Some medications do have reactions to the laser, so your doctor may need to prescribe a different medication.

All patients of laser hair removal need to grow their hair out to about a quarter inch length. The doctor will shave off the pubic hair if it is longer than what is needed. Patients must not have a tan or be using any tanning products, as it will interfere with the laser that is trying to target the dark melanin. If you are using tanning products or you have a tan, you must wait for it to fade. Generally, laser hair removal is done in the winter months by most patients because they do not need their bikini line ready for the beach.

If you have ever had infections or ingrown hairs in the pubic area, you need to discuss this with the doctor. The doctor may be able to target problem areas and prevent the infections from happening again. At your initial evaluation, you will need to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about laser hair removal. Patients being treated for bikini hair removal with lasers will be given a pair of paper panties to wear during the procedure. The doctor will allow you to wear the panties during the procedure, or you can remove them. For other types of hair removal, the doctor will take a before and after picture to assess their hair removal. Individuals being treated for bikini hair removal have the option of declining the picture to maintain their privacy.

A patient needs to have realistic expectations when going in for laser hair removal treatments. Depending upon the type of removal you are having done in the pubic area, you may end up with one or two stray hairs that were not removed in the procedure. Multiple visits are required, generally at least 4-6 weeks apart to allow the hair follicles to produce the new hair in their cycle. If you have completed all your treatments and you still have a few stray hairs, contact your doctor for another treatment. Patients have different ideas when it comes to removing bikini hair. Some patients choose to remove all of their public hair, others like to leave some of the hair so they have the option of shaving it. Generally, the bikini hair removal means the hair will be removed from the sides of the legs and thinned out the hair so it is not as thick.

Bikini hair laser hair removal feels like a bee sting or a small pinch. Where the areas of the hair are covering the bone, the pinch will sting a little bit more than on other areas of the skin. Some patients have described bikini hair removal as the feeling of a rubber band snapping on the skin. Compared to waxing, the pain of laser hair removal is minimal. Depending upon the facility you visit, the cost of laser hair removal will vary. The average price for bikini hair laser hair removal is around $250 per treatment. Most patients require around 4 to 6 treatments.

In order to find a good facility, you must shop around. Companies tend to offer deals for multiple sessions and may reduce the price if you agree to have more than one area on the body treated. It is important to find out your state's requirements for laser hair removal before you pay the money to a particular facility. Some states require the doctors to perform the laser hair removal, while others allow a licensed laser hair removal technician to do it. Word of mouth is always a great way to find a good laser hair removal facility. Make sure the initial consultation you go to is free before you show up for the appointment. Always discuss your concerns with the doctor or technician and talk about the type of laser they have. Some lasers do not have a high intensity or do not cover as much skin as the new lasers, causing the patients to come back for more visits. Always read the contract you are signing since the price can increase after one or two visits. The most important part in selecting a good laser hair removal facility is to find one with a doctor or technician that you connect with. Laser hair removal is a medical procedure and you need to have someone working on you that you feel comfortable with.

On the day of your procedure, you need to have the area clean and free of any powders, lotions, or cosmetics. Some patients apply a numbing cream to the area to take away the stinging feeling. A nurse will cleanse the area and place ice packs on the skin for 10 minutes along with a cold jelly-like liquid. The jelly protects the skin from burning and becoming irritated. The procedure generally takes about 45 minutes, depending upon how much hair you are having removed. During the procedure, the patient must wear protective eyewear. After the procedure, a nurse will rub numbing ointment onto the skin and place the ice packs back on the skin for about 10 minutes. The skin will be red for a few minutes, but most patients do not experience any pain after the procedure. Patients may take ibuprofen to lessen the pain during the procedure, but they should not take aspirin since it causes bruising.

Patients must wait at least 4 weeks before returning for their next treatment. The process will be the same for every treatment until the doctor and patient are satisfied with the end result. The risks with laser hair removal are minimal, most patients do experience a little redness and swelling in the pubic region, but it normally disappears within a few hours. All patients need to avoid exposing the skin to sun after the treatments. Once the final treatment is completed, sun exposure may begin about 3 days after the procedure. All patients should wear sunscreen to prevent any damage to the skin.

Another common risk patients face with the laser hair removal treatments is the risk of lightening or darkening of skin. Due to this reason, laser hair removal should be performed under the supervision of a medical doctor or dermatologist. Blistering and other skin outbreaks may occur, but they are also rare.

Bikini hair laser hair removal is a simple way to get rid of the unwanted hair you have in your bikini area. The procedure will save you money in the long run and it will help you avoid painful ingrown hairs and itching caused from waxing, shaving, plucking, and hair removal creams.
