Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Review

There is corn listed in this product as well as lots of by-products. I was not as impressed with this product as I thought I would be. The use of BHA is very bad for liver health of pets - both dogs and cats. The use of grains such as corn is also liver damaging. Corn is responsible for itching, dry skin, kidney failure and liver disease. By-Products are ingredients used in place of any real meat. By-Products are those parts of animals which are not fit for human consumption. I would be very afraid of using Bil-Jac Dog Food after reading the list of ingredients. Dried Beet Pulp is nothing more than another cheap filler used to produce Bil-Jac. There is no real value to beet pulp in a dog's diet. Shame on you, Bil-Jac! With a total score of only 7 out of 10 Bil Jac dog food is rated right next to Wal-Mart brand Ol' Roy dog food. Bil-Jac does come with a healthy price for cheap fillers and junk. There have been no recalls or Class Actions filed against Bil-Jac dog food.Susan Peters

Having talked with a rep from Bil-Jac yesterday, some of the "red flag" signs, like corn, may not be the issue an issue with their product do to the way they process their corn separately. They state, " Bil-Jac starches undergo a separate, slow cooking process to make the carbohydrares more digestible--around 99%."

I also like the their "Low temerature, vacuum procesing", vs. the more common extrusion proces.

While I do not use the food, at least yet, I use Wellness, I think you may want to look at it more indepth rather than glossing over the ingredients and rule them out, as I have in the past.
