Want to Trick Out Your Pool Table? Use New Billiards Supplies to Create the Look You Want
People who are avid billiards players know that for serious players billiards is a game that is about style and appearance as much as it is about the actual game. People who have at home billiards areas love to customize their billiards space, billiards table, and other billiards supplies that are designed to let each person show off their individual style. There are endless ways that you can use different billiards supplies to dress up your at home billiards area. One way that you can really make your home billiards area stand out is to have your billiards table re-felted in another color. When people think of billiards tables they tend to think of the pool table felt having the classic green or sometimes a cranberry red color. These days though anything goes when it comes to the color of the felt on the table. Some of the companies that make felt for billiards tables now offer as many as 16 color choices including the traditional green and red but also in new choices like neon pink, gold, lime green, neon orange, dark purple, black, many different shades of red, many shades of green, and many shades of blue ranging from a deep navy to a robin's egg blue. So now matter what the décor is in your home you can find a billiards table felt that will complement it. And since it often costs less than $150 to get new felt for your billiards table you can create an entirely new look for your billiards table whenever you think it's time for a change, or move to another home, or just change the décor in the room.
Another way that you can use billiards supplies to dress up your home billiards area is to pick unique light fixtures to light your billiards table. Many people like the traditional banker's style light fixtures but if your home is very modern you might prefer a modern chrome or metallic fixture. If your home is more classical in style then a wrought iron light fixture might fit in well. Picking new pool table lights or changing the lighting around the billiards table is also a fun way to make your billiards area unique. If you really want to add a personal touch to your home billiards area you can have your billiards supplies engrave with your monogram or personal seal. Your friends and family will be impressed when they come over for a game of billiards and find that your billiards table felt, house cues, balls, seating area, and even your pool table lights have been marked with your initials or monogram. A good billiards supplies store will be able to add a monogram to just about any of the products that they sell so if you want to completely customize your home billiards area or if you want to open your own billiards hall and you want all the tables to be branded with the business name you can get custom made billiards accessories that have your initials or logo on them.
Different Pool Table Pockets
Pool Table Parts: Replacing Pockets
Billiards tables take a great amount of wear and tear over the years that they are used. All parts of them, even the legs, can become worn and need replacing. Parts of the pool table's top are the most important to replace when they become too damaged to suffice any longer. The top of the table is where the game is played and therefore is the most important part of the table when it comes to fixing damaged goods. Replacing your pockets is just as important as replacing your railing when it goes bad. Bad pockets can affect game play by slowing it down greatly, or even worse, they can affect game play by not receiving the balls properly when they are hit into the pockets. Just as all other parts and accessories of the pool table, these pockets can be pricey or not so pricey. Depending on your budget, quality pool pockets are not too hard to find. Some of the best quality pool pockets are very expensive, however.
There are many companies that make pool pockets that are long lasting and very durable. Most of these pockets are made of tanned leather and can be acquired all over the internet and in the real world of billiards and pool table stores. These leather pockets are put through a thorough finishing process that will ensure resistance against chipping, which can be a major problem in more generic made pool pockets. Once these leather pieces are cut, split, and finished they are then immersed in water and shaped by hand. Many companies use this process for quality products. These leather pieces are then fit to a piece of cast iron which is used for strength and durability.
To tell which pocket size you need is a fairly simple process. There are two types of pocket sizes which are number six irons and number three irons. Number six irons are the most commonly used irons in today's billiards world. They can be described as having a round post on each end of the iron that will fit into the wood rail with a bolt that screws into the bottom. The number three irons have a rectangle flange that sits on top of the rail and is held down by two bolts from the bottom instead of one. Most new tables, however, come equipped with the number six iron while the older tables are home to the number three irons. So, if you have a much older pool table then you will more than likely be using the number three iron. Most people will be purchasing the number six iron. It is important to get the right size so that your pool table is a smooth running machine. If any of the components of your table are off, especially the components of the table top, it can ruin your whole pool table experience. Any person who considers themselves an advanced player will know that all the parts of the pool table must be in a state of billiards harmony.
Rubber Rail Cushions
Replacing Pool Table Parts: Rubber Rail Cushion
There are a lot of things that may, at one time or another, need replacing on your pool table. Some of these parts will be inexpensive and some of these parts will not. A pool table endures a lot of wear and tear over a period of time and many of its parts will become damaged or completely useless until they are replaced. Rubber rails cushion are a part of the table that take more wear and tear than some of the other pool table parts. The rubber rails are the part of the table that defines the physical playing boundaries of the game. If these wear out, they are going to need replaced immediately. These are usually a more inexpensive part of the pool table to replace, thankfully. Depending on what size table you have, you can usually have these bumpers replaced for under one hundred dollars. They are also fairly easy to replace yourself if you would like to save some money by not hiring a professional. The important things to remember are the measurements, of course, so that you do not get a size of bumpers that are too big or a size of bumpers that are too small.
When replacing rail rubber cushions it is important to get the right profile cushion and to make sure that it is within your budget. There are some times that a person has an old worn out table that they do not mind using cheaper items to repair it with. Pool tables were designed to use one of four main types of rail cushioning profiles. There is the K66 profile, which is the most common of these profiles. This profile is used on most of the home and commercial three piece slate tables. There is also the K55 profile rail cushion. These are mostly used on coin operated tables and the carom tables. Next there are the U23 rail cushions that are used on some home pool tables and on some commercial tables. There are then the Centennial or Century rail cushion profiles that are administered to low cost Brunswick tables and on other low cost home pool tables.
It is so important to make sure you have the right profile because without the right profile you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. Buying the wrong profile can, of course, leave you with railing that is too long. It can also leave you with railing that is the wrong height or with the rail strike positioning way off. It is very important to make sure that all of these factors are in their proper place in relation to where the balls hit. If the balls hit a railing that is off in any way, it can affect the outcome of the game greatly. You must have the proper measurements. The railing's height or what is also known as the strike point should be about sixty three and a half percent of the ball's diameter. You should compare your own rubber cushioning to the dimensions of other cushioning when purchasing the right railing if you do not already know exactly what kind of railing you will need.
