The Yahoo That Became A Digital Media Billionaire

In the 2008 Forbes list of worldwide Billionaire Moguls, Jerry Yang staked out his place at #524.

Only 39 years old, he already has a net worth of some $2,300,000,000.

Digital Media Mogul Yang Co-founded Yahoo along with David Filo. They took the company public in the mid-90s, during the first Internet boom.

Let's call that period in time Internet Boom 1.0.

A few years ago, he and Filo were hailed, along with several others, as the moguls of the new digital age.

I also read that Digital Media Mogul Yang is married and has at least 1 child.

It seems that this Billionaire Mogul simply has the world at his fingertips.

A Magical Wonderland Of Digital Media Delights

I imagine that being in his position is like going to work at a chocolate factory everyday, with cute little people running around serving you all sorts of chocolate treats and delights.

You could even wash it all down with a heaping glass of chocolate milk.

For me though it would have to be chocolate almond milk, because I'm lactose intolerant. And I hate the taste of soy milk.

But I digress.

The point is that Digital Media Mogul Jerry Yang should, by all rights, be happy as a drunk lark!

But even for chocolate lovers, too much of a good thing is, well, not all that good frankly.

Wonderland Ain't Always So Wonderful

So what's the problem?

Here's a short list of problems, uh I mean challenges, facing Digital Media Mogul Yang and Yahoo:

  • The stock price hasn't been taking an upward trajectory lately, angering those impatient and ungrateful little shareholders (who are they to want to make money ... those greedy bastards!)

  • Google has been beating Yahoo's pants off in the lucrative search advertising arena, though Yahoo is a clear second

  • Microsoft and CEO Steve Ballmer had been stalking Mogul Yang and Yahoo for some time, hoping to embrace both in a rib-crushing $40,000,000,000 plus acquisition deal

  • After Microsoft gave up and stomped off into the wilderness seeking other prey, takeover Mogul Carl Icahn showed up, seeking to wrestle Mogul Yang and Yahoo into submission with a Brazillian sleeper hold

Ah yes, things are not always like a wonderland, even for the Billionaire Moguls.

But frankly, after a day spent beating back Carl Icahn, the Microsoft Empire and greedy litttle shareholders, there's no place like home - a beautiful baby, a loving wife ... and my $2,300,000,000!

Makes it all worth it doesn't it?

Well doesn't it???
