The Future: Biometric Products

The other day I realized that I have a lot of valuable items and documents laying around my bedroom. It only hit me when I realized I couldn't find my tax information that was sent to me in the mail. It then hit me that I don't have any organization in my life. I figured it's time to start securing my future. Start organizing myself so I know where my assets are. I grabbed up all my work information, my pay information, my stock information, etc., basically anything of any value to me. I got them all together and realized that all this information is very valuable to my life. I needed a way to keep them safe, and organized. I realized that I always saw my parents put items into an organizational unit, like a filing cabinet. But some things were too important for that, and for those they put them into a safe.

I did a few days worth of research on which type of organizational unit or safe I should purchase. I also went out and looked at examples of each, trying to decide on which will fit my needs best. I have basically narrowed down the thousands of options to what I found to be the best type of safes in production.

Biometric safes. ($100+)

For those who don't know what biometrics is, it's using a distinguishable part of a human to identify that individual. These devices are similar to finger print scanners or retinal scanners.

Looking at this type of safe, I felt like this was the way of the future. I haven't had a lot of experience with biometric products besides my laptop, which scans my finger to recognize my own fingerprint as my log on pattern. The model I did the most research on was the Biovault Biometric Fingerprint Safe Bio BVSB1-B ($349).

This safe has it all. You can register more than one persons information on it, so that a family can all have access, but there is no way to lose the key to the safe, thus leaving all of your information stuck inside, and you without access. It works for businesses as well, because you can have access up to 50 people with this model. This is the perfect safe for keeping money in, especially if you choose a model that mounts into your wall, or bolts into the ground, thus making the safe impossible to be moved. It's not possible to pick a digital lock, nor is it easy to decode using a computer. There is even different access levels, such as regular safe access, and admin. Only an admin can en roll someone else into the access to the safe. With the future of this biometric process, we will start to see people's doors not having keys anymore, but biometric door locks, which area already for sale on the internet. It is battery operated but can also be plugged into the wall. Thus allowing for you to always have access into the safe.

I've had this safe now for over three months, and it works perfectly. It has no flaws and I've had several of my friends try to use their fingers and all of them have been rejected. I strongly believe this is the way of the future as far as security goes. Every person already has differences from every other person in the world, why not use it to keep our belongings ours, and eliminate theft from our society. I predict that in the near future we will start seeing this more commonly in automobiles, although this is already starting. Soon, biometrics, like every other new discovery, will come down in price, and help further our standard of living and safety in our day to day lives. I've been using biometric products for over a year now, with my laptop being a biometric device, and have never once found it to not work. Every time someone brings up, what happens if something happens to your finger or if something happens and you have a cut on your thumb, ruining your fingerprint. Well, that's where the multi-access comes in handy. If you enroll more than one finger, if one gets cut, it will heal to work again, and you always have your other hands or parts of the body you enrolled to access with. Unlike a lock and key system, where if you lose the key, you have to have your safe broken into professionally, your finger will heal and start accessing the safe once again.

The most extreme situation that I can think of to keep your belongings safe in this safe is to not put any batteries in it at all. This may work to your advantage because if you just put the power cord somewhere where it won't be found, no one can open the safe at all, until you bring the cord to it and plug it in, thus allowing you to only open the safe when you are there, with your access, and your power cord.

The Future

One system I wish the world would introduce, to save us all from identity theft, would be a biometric credit/debit card system. If you could link your finger print to your bank statement, instead of your 15/16 digit credit card number, wouldn't you feel safe making purchases? No one can steal your card, or get a hold of your information. Even at ATMs, no one could steal your card and go withdraw money before you can cancel the card. Sure the system may be a bit expensive to install, but wouldn't it over time save banks and credit card companies money by not having fraudulent charges.
