The wording of your birth announcements sets the tone for the entire event. If you choose drab words and dull descriptors, your baby's birth announcement will bea drag.

However, if you choose cheery wording as well as fun and creative descriptions, your announcement card will be celebrated and cheerful. Choose your birth announcement wording carefully!

In this article I will outline the standard details that are included (and almost expected to be) in most birth announcements. I will also give some birth announcement example verses for different types of announcement cards.

Standard Birth Announcement Wording

The standard wording included in most birth announcements details the following:

  • Your baby's name
  • Your baby's birth day (date and time of birth)
  • Your baby's height and weight

Most birth announcements also include parental details (first and last names) and many of today's cards also include sibling details as well (such as "Older Brother Jack" or "Big Sister Jane").

Birth Announcement Verses Based on Theme

Probably the most important factor in having creative, meaningful wording is to match your verse with the type of birth announcement you have. Depending on what type of announcement you chose, you should use a verse that incorporates your announcement's theme.

Sports birth announcements should include sports terms and images. For example, baseball birth announcements can say something like "Introducing our new slugger John Andrews Jamieson" or "We would like to announce 'the babe'". Then, details such as birth time and day can be stated as the "major league debut". See the picture below for examples of unique sports birth announcement verses.

Boy birth announcements and girl birth announcements will naturally utilize masculine or feminine wording. See the examples below for some ideas.

Talks of packages, gifts and a lack of "Silent Nights" might conjure up images of Christmas. Christmas birth announcements are a creative way to celebrate a baby's birth if it's within the holiday season. Take a look at the pictures below for some holiday announcement wording ideas.

If you have custom photo birth announcements, I would recommend not adding much extra in the way of wording because the photo of your baby is supposed to be the focal point of the card, not the verse.

Finally, if you have another type of generic birth announcement, try to match the card's wording with the theme. Below are some photos of birth announcements that match the theme and wording quite well.
