Birthday Greeting Cards

There are times when I marvel at the way things have turned out in my life. I have a wonderful marriage, a solid job and we live in a tranquil lake home on one of the largest lakes in Minnesota. It is not the biggest house on the block nor does it have the best beach, but we have the nicest neighbors in the world. We are so blest to have moved next to a couple that we enjoy spending time with. We play card together, fish together, gamble together and eat meals in each other's homes. It is so nice to live next to someone that you can trust and that will lend a hand when you need it.

Finding the Right Birthday Greeting Card

The guys like fishing, so we often go shopping in the small gift and craft shops in the local towns. We have gotten to know several of the shop owners. One day I was looking for birthday greeting cards for several birthdays that were coming up in the month. I was having a hard time finding the right birthday greeting cards. The shop owner commented that so many people were using e-cards that many of the companies were down sizing the physical cards that they had available. Also there were many people that created their own cards on their computers. She said holiday cards still sold very well, but birthday greeting cards were on a decline. She said another reason for this was that the gift bags had become more indemand and most of them included a tag that you could write your birthday message on.

Birthday Greeting Cards Out of Old Photos

When we left the shop my neighbor and I started talking about the cards we had seen in this small resort town about twenty miles away. The cards featured old black and white photographs of different people and the inside had hilarious sayings in them. It was a great day for a drive and neither of us had anything planned so we drove to the town. There were a few of the greeting cards left, but not nearly the selection that they have had in the past. The shop owner said that the local woman that had made the cards was no longer interested in doing them. My neighbor and I started talking about this on the way home. She had a trunk full of old photographs from her mother. She said there were several that would make great cards. We started fooling around with sayings to match pictures. It was great fun. We used photo printers and card stock and different fonts to create funny unique cards. We contracted with one of the shops and started making a nice side income making birthday greeting cards.

Finding the Perfect Greeting Card

There are many different things you can do for someone when a special occasion arises. We often send flowers and gift baskets, and we may send emails and notes when something goes wrong and we suspect that someone needs comfort. However, no matter how fancy online cards become, or how elaborate a basket might be, there is nothing that will take the place of a perfect greeting card. Many feel the pressure to find the perfect card, especially when the occasion is sad, but it is not that hard. You just have to take your time and the right card will come to you.

I use to stress out about finding the right greeting card, but I found a way that always works. I don't stress about it, but instead, I make sure I have some time to stand in the aisle. If you are in a hurry, you aren't going to find what you need. You have to walk around the aisle and look at anything that catches your eye. When you find one, you pick it up and keep looking. You look until you have at least three greeting cards in your hands that work. Then you choose one of them to send, but you may want to buy all three so that you have some good ones at home when something pops up again in the future.

There is something special about a greeting card that nothing else can touch. If you find the right one in the store, you will know it. You can send someone an e-card, but no matter how good or how cute they are, they are just not the same. I have saved almost every greeting card that I have ever gotten, as I know that people aren't always going to be around. They are lasting reminders of the relationships in your life, and there may be no better way to remember how much someone loved you and how much they meant to you.

The best thing about the greeting card is that you can find them for almost any situation you can think of, and for some that you may have never thought of before. Even better, you don't really need a reason to send one, you just have to be thinking of someone when you see the right one on the shelf. While it is great to get a good greeting card for a special occasion, it is even better when you get one that comes out of nowhere. When someone sends you a card just because they are thinking about you, you feel good inside. Remember that feeling and remember to return the favor.
