BITSAT is an entrance test for getting admission into one of the campuses of the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science(BITS-Pilani).BITS has campuses at Pilani,Goa and in Dubai.Starting this year BITS is also taking students into its newly established BITS Hyderabad Campus.Around 1,16,000 students are going to take BITSAT-2008 and only 2000(<2%) of them are going to be selected.
BITSAT is the first complete online based admission procedure for any undergraduate course.These online tests are conducted at seventeen centers in India, during the months of May and June every year.

For BITS Pilani merit is the sole criterion and the aspiring candidates are required to have a minimum aggregate of 80% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the 12th examination with at least 60% marks in each of the subjects. Board toppers can apply for direct admissions also.
BITSAT is a 3 hour duration test offered to candidates on computers at dedicated computer centres at different cities spread across India. The test has objective type (multiple choice) questions only.
To further the cause of women education, BITS Pilani has shown a special gesture by making the BITSAT application fee for girl candidates as Rs 400/- only instead of Rs 800/-. In addition, the Institute will try its best to accommodate all girl candidates at their first preference of test centre for appearing in BITSAT.
Question paper pattern
Bitsat is a 3 hours examination consisting of 150 questions which includes 45 from Mathematics,40 from Physics,40 from Chemistry and 25 from English and Logical Reasoning.
Starting BITSAT-2008 people from Biology stream(BiPC) can also take part in Bitsat and they have an option to choose biology(with 45 questions) instead of mathematics.
P.S:They will be given admissions into M.Sc.Biology or B.Pharmacy

People are often confused that duals in Bits Pilani are same as duals in other engineering colleges. There is hell amount of difference.
To start of the duals degrees are mostly M.Sc(Hons) degrees...i.e. they are science degrees and are not engineering dual degrees like M.Tech.
Secondly , after the completion of your first year you will be given a dual degree in an engineering stream depending on your performance.For example if a guy joins in M.Sc.(Hons) Mathematics and after first year he cant get any dual in a engineering stream like EEE,EIE,CSE i mean any branch..
The whole point is a Science degree with an Engineering degree....The thing being the Science and engineering degrees are themselef recognised and the dual engineering degree is in no way different from the normal engineering degree.
Thirdly u dont waste an extra year(5 year)...You actually work in a company,doing ur internships with a stipend.
Apart from that you can do an engineering dual i.e. one engineering dual with another.There are people in the campus who are doing Computer science with EEE dual and they pass out in 5 years...opens up many gates for higher studies

Ya according to me it is..letz check out some advantage we have
1) You get 2 degrees in 5 years
2) The M.Sc degree course are in no way related to the B.E. courses(except for few common coourses) . so you get 2 degrees at end of 5 years..so you can potray urself as a Masters in Science or and engineer or even both
3)As you have two degrees it gives lots of options for higher studies...consider Bio with Mech dual...see how many reasearch option one has..and it is very easy to get admissions in top colleges
4)Dualites most of the time get better pay then normal engineering students.
5)Your one year internships is counted as experience by most of the companies...so if you work there and get placed there you will start of with a great pay package
6)And finally you dont have to waste that final year in college...you can work in a company doin your PS-2(something like internship) and earn stipends
DIsadvantages:
1)Most of the times the sciences degree do not help in your engineering...So itz upto you to explore those fields
2)Some companies do not allow dualites for placements(only few)
3) You have to complete 2 degrees in 5 years so itz sometimes hectic
4)You have a placement option of only one week(coz you will be doing your intern) while engineering group people stay on the campus complete sem for their placements...many dualites do a thesis on campus rather than intern so that they can stay for placements the whole sem..also many dualites get their jobs during their internship(PS-2)

hows BitsPilani for pharmacy....what is the cutoff....???
Bits PIlani for pharmacy is good and people have great higher studies prospects..but frankly speaking the placements for them are not that good compared to other engineering streams
But as u c placements for B.Pharamcy is not that good anywhere in India and most of them do M.Pharm and higher studies..so in that regards the degree from Bits is highly valued
Will studying from NCERT books be enough for cracking BITSAT or i'll have 2 refer other books too....actually m not from CBSE or ICSE board so what do u recommend for me....pls reply.....
Just tell me whether you are from Maths stream or Biology...And when is your bitsat....
And as for the syallabus ya NCERT books would be enuf...but concentrate in chemistry especially on topics which are at end of the book like polymers,Bio molecules,Biological processes etc and revise all the topics you know

7 June good date to write the exam....You have a lot of time to prepare topics in chemistry that people generally dont touch like biomolecules,Polymers etc etc
Try to revise the syllabus and apart from that learn some new topics which can be completed easily

Bits fees is not high...itz slightly higher than normal IIT's and is far lower than any other private engineering college...Ya Goa campus is good enuf...you would probably pass out after 4 years if you join Goa campus in 2009...that would mean atleast 5 batches which have placements before(including this year) so it would be very good prospect to join Goa

Ya atleast fro Bits Hyd the cutoff will be lower.....with hyd being a developing(I am also from hyd) there is large scope of development for Hyderabad....And as for the placement scenario they shld rock as local engineering colleges have decent placement there...
But to compete along Pilani and Goa it may take some time for the college to gain momentum
And the most astonishing news about Hyd Campus being that there are more than 80% of Phd's going to take the classes

Solving papers online and revising general formulae(especially those in topics like parabola,ellipse,chemical kinetics,electrodynamics) would help...try to complete chemsitry part like biomolecules and polymers only if u feel u have the time to complete(it would surely help though)

@sudheer Ya you get ur question paper from a huge database of questions...when is your exam...I will be in hyd on may 14...Previous questions papers as such are not available...so the best thing to do would be to poast all the questions you and your friends have come across in BITSAT exam....And practice as many online papers as possible...dont forget to spread the word abt BITSexam(www.bitsexam.com)

Fees in Bits is decent slightly higher than IIT's...itz arnd 30000 per semester + 15000 mess and others(itz just a rough estimate...gals spend way lower than boys)
And you get special bank loans for Bitsians from Andhra Bank and State Bank of India(all state banks)

ncert books...but try to revise formulas from other books coz in maths you are expected to solve almost every problem

@varsha the best thing abt BIo Sciences for a student from Maths backgrnd is that he can get an engineering degree...expect something like Bio+Computer Science the best place for research...any dual with Bio has great scope for research and higher studies(Bio department is one of the best departments in Bits in terms of foreign collaborations)
Apart from that you get your placement based on your engineering dual so you need not worry abt the placements
For People with Biology backgrnd Bio Sciences would be a great place to learn things

Is bitsat like IIT(tough & intelligent types)or solving more no of ques. in less time. What role does speed play in bitsat?In wat sequence shud I ans d paper & wat shud b d time distribution 4 better results.Plz do help me.bitsat is my last option.
according to me all competitive exams are for the tough and intelligent....ya coming to your point Bitsat would be tougher than any state level entrance examination...though not on lines of JEE it surely would consider questions of similar standard except the one can work his way around some questions ...Solving problems quickly especially mathematics is an asset in competitive exams and Bitsat is no different from that
You have to start with English 15 mins,CHemistry 25-30 mins,Maths 45-50 mins and then physics 40-45 mins...that would leave you a time of arnd 45 questions to go back to questions you couldnt solve

Many a times I do gramatical errors...only reason being I try to present the answers in a better way and it happens that I add and delete sentences.So some words come up at wrong places...sorry for that...

@anurag reddy English paper would be slightly tuffer for people from State Board Backgrnd...But one can always cover up for it...Practice as many online papers as possible...As I said before one cannot master English in matter of month but surely can improve

The point being that stick to one book which you are comfortbale with...and try to complete the syllabus...And simultaneously solve papers and clear your doubts....
If there are any time constraints better practise as many papers as possible and then try to rectify your mistakes...byheart all memory based question(this strategy is not advisable..only works when you dont have much time)
As for questions in organic...no one can predict as they are taken from a huge databse randomly...
Even I was not that good in organic..so i studied some basic like alkanes,alkenes,alkynes,alcohols and then byhearted all the important reactions(literally) without understanding much of the fundas behind it....it did help me coz many reactions that came in paper where pretty similar(this strategy is totally luck based and hence not advisable unless you have time constraints)

Ans there is no need for you to be an IIT aspirant...even I wasnt one...neither did I perform well in Aieee(some 4k rank)...But hard work pays off...so odnt give up your preparation

If you are not from CBSE backgrnd it doesnt make much difference if you prepare from standar books like Arrihant...Even Narayana and Chaitanya material is good... Ya solving moel papers on bitsexam + solving as many papers as possible is the best thing to do

and i have heard that this year it wont be so , yet when you read the paper that they give you after bitsat this year states

now according to "or mathematics" i think the field should be open forthose having maths background too , while my friend at pilani said that i should check the website to find if they state that we have to have a bio background to actually get admission in the bio msc programm. i couldnt find it on their website though .
and what does keeping people having maths as their subject bieng first priority in dual degree allotment mean , i mean i have heard that its your cgpa that matters but what do theymean by that?
thirdly i am getting 265 , should i expect anything , i am even ready for dual a degree course in hyderabad even if it goes as far as 4 th iteration.

AFAIK people with Maths backgrnd will be given M.Sc. Biology and they will also be given an engineering dual....And those with Bio backgrnd wont be given dual...they will have some extra courses in mathematics so that when they do their M.Sc they wont be different from the people from Maths Backgrnd
CGPA is like your percentage(something similar to it...but lot different from how it is calculated)...so on that basis you will be given an engineering dual...like in my batch the cutoff for Comp Sci was arnd 7.9 out of 10... and EEE 7.5/10

My son shall be appearing for BITSAT 2008 on 28th May. He has been called for counselling in VIT. AIR around 800, good enough for getting CSE there. Counselling on 04th June & adm on 28th June, i.e., before decl of BITSAT admission lists. Expecting appx 210 in IIT JEE & appx. 220-225 in AIEEE. Should he get admitted in VIT? What is the diff in status/placement?

Sir even I was in the same situation ...VIT rank 770...and had a rank of 4k in AIEEE...i got 309 in BITSAT and chose BITS...VIT is in noways close to even the moderate NIT's..the placement scenario is not tht good(my friend is getting placed this sem)...and as for status IIT's/BITS/NIT's are of completely different status both in terms of respect and prospects of higher studies...If your son is "TRULY" expecting good score in JEE or AIEEE he should not think about VIT...and it would be better if he waits for his BITSAT exam to be done and then decide...

@divya...this is a general tactic I followed first 15 min English and Logical reasoning...next 25-30 mins Chemistry...then 45-50 mins MAths and finally 40-45 mins Physics....that will leave yopu arnd 45 mins to come back to any left out questions...also you shld take care while practising mock tests tht you dont spend more than 1 min on any problem...probably having you mom or dad sit beside or have a watch so that this problem can be controlled...

@apuroopa YA sis you can get dual degree and mite get chemical in goa and no idea about HYD
But you shld consider dual degree...just check out my post about dual degrees to clear your doubts...even I am a dualite :)

If you have 283 in BITS then you shld expect a dual degree in Pilani or Goa

M.Sc. Hons degrees are science degrees and you surely get an engineering dual with it while M. Sc Tech degrees dont gaurantee you an engineering dual...Also these M.Sc Tech degrees are more specific towarsds one field...like Information Systems...And to get a dual you got to have perform really well in the campus

There is no fees difference dude..BITS is not selling itz seats...it gives quality education at far lower prices than many other private engineering colleges

in bits exam i thought that there was some mistake in 2 questions
1 as probability cant be 2
2 answer was not in option
1 I informed proctor about 1st one and he told me that every one will
be given full marks in this question if there is something wrong and I got 283
by computer so are those marks included in my total or not.
2 if 2nd question is pointed out by other batch then correction wil be reflected to ours score or not ??????????????

I got 283 in my Bitsat score. Do you think I will get through to any of the 3 campuses (preferably goa or hyderabad)?
They generally review all the questions and if they find any errors they add it to the final score...my score increased from 305 to 309 :)
As I said before cant comment about the cutoffs...hope for the best

The official website of BITS nowhere mentions anything about fees structure etc. Can you give any guidance abt what is the appx. fees and other charges for 4 yr B.E. as compared to 5 yr M. Sc course with dual degree? Pl. also give any link which gives these details.
As toppers of BPS, Pilani, a school under the same managememt, some meritorious students get direct admission in BITS. Is it preferable to take adm under this scheme or try through BITSAT? What is the diff in courses available to such students?

ya the fees increases every year and so they dont put up any info about that before admission proces starts(only after Bitsat ends :) )..Itz generally less than 30k sem fees and 15k extras...and as I sadi before you get loans without any problem at all...
M.Sc course you pay 5 years fees...so extra 2 sems + you pay 12k admission fees in second year for that extra degree
Not only BPS there are also other schools thorugh which meritorious students get admission into the campus...but the prob being they are not given engineering degrees....If your Bitsat score is good then itz better to take admission through Bitsat....and it would be better if you contact others

@shikha Ya sis you mite get electronic in Hyd but I wouldnt prefer that...you read my posts about dual degrees carefully to know how to get a dual in Electronic ins any one of the campuses...
Since Hyd being a new campus itz cutoff is expected to be less..

hi bhaiya. my bitsat is on 24th. my chemistry is quite strong and even in iit except 6 q rest of all q in chem were correct. but i feel very nervous in maths even though i know the answer. i always feel that i will not be able to complete the test. plz guide me as to how to manage time ie complete 150 q in time as i m very slow.
start with english spend 15 mins...then chem arnd 25 mins then maths arnd 45-50 mins and physics 40-45 mins
Also by heart all the basic formula so that you can save time instead of deriving them in the examination hall especially those from coordinate geometry...
And while practicing mock tests see to it that you dont spend more than 1 min on any question... :)

@ divya Btsat shld be of same level or lesser than exams given on Bitsexam...except that Physics can be more tricky and maths more lngthy and physics a bit more memory based
@ameya After your first year you apply for the enginerering degree and give your prefernce order same as you give now...And depending your performance in first year you get your dual degree

@Siva Think in this way...when you pass out of goa you will have atleast 4 batches of seniors placed...so Placements will be stabilised by tht time...Goa is decently good...You can get Mch at Pilani...depends on the cutoff for mech and the competition

I hail from hyd .I am from state board. Ihave my bits on june12.I have many doubts regarding the preperation. 1.Do i have to entirely put away my inter books and depend only on ncert???? 2. In order togo thru ncert syllabus ,is it enough if i just go thru the textbooks or will i have to do the exercises in some other books like arihant etc.3. I've seen some sample papers and found organic to be too difficult other than the syllabus from ncerttextbook. plz help

@spurthy Nope you need not..but prepare organic from any standard book you followed till now for your preparation...Like even the Narayan and Chaitanya material would also do...Organic would be tough...but once you prepare from any standard book and practice few exercises(Taking into consideration that you have lots of time) it would fill the gap...Even I was from state board...I prepared from O.P. Tandon...solved some exercises and scored decently in Bitsat...
I@Kartik NCERT for completing the syallbus...but one must practice many papers so that he improves his speed and accuracy....So practice as many papers as possible...and as for theory part NCERT syllabus would do....All the best for you exam

Prefer HC Verma..Even NCERT books would do...but HC verma is good both in concepts and problems...also see to it that you dont read topics which are out of the syllabus and waste your time

Nope they arent... I wrote my Bitsat on june 7 and many ppl got better scores on the last days...so it breask your myth...
Try to revise basic formulas and attempt as many mock tests as possible...daily 1 these 10 days....and try to study the synopsis of the odd topics from good books like arrihant
