Wal-Mart will now allow shoppers to line up in the stores to get deals. You may recall last year a Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death by customers charging into the store. Wal-mart has made efforts to employ more people and security to direct customers and will allow them to line up in store to get the products.

Last year the huge TV item was a 19" for about $199, this year retailers are pushing higher ticket TVs such as 32" and larger at deeper discounts. Better cameras are also being discounted. Stores are not trying to push the cheapest item in each category in an attempt to get retail ticket up. These items are a great value, but if you want the 19" TV it looks as if you can get it for about $149 this year.

2009 Shopping Season

What will we find this Black Friday in stores and online? Cyber Monday deals are the online sales the Monday after Thanksgiving and if you didn't find what you were looking for on Black Friday, you can find it online after. It is early in the season but this page will stay updated with the deals, ads, store hours, and tips for finding what you want.

With retailers reducing their budgets for marketing and print advertising, expect the biggest and best offers from each retailer to be printed in the paper. I am expecting many people in this economy to save up for the deals and get up early to shop and save the money. If we don't have a lot to spend, many of us are more willing to fight crowds to save the money on the gifts we need. Stores will keep early hours like last year and push opening price-point merchandise.

Stay tuned for updates as the season approaches!

Wal-Mart has already announced a selection of $10 toys for this season and may go lower for Black Friday. Sears will be sending toys to more stores than carry them in their normal assortment as well.

Best Buy is running "group gifting" with pitch-in gift cards. Get your wish list together because you can create a gift card online your friends and family can contribute money toward for a gift, and get one card!

Many retailers will repeat the early hours, with places like JCPenney opening at 4am again!

Black Friday Sales

$199 Wii? Some retailers are rumored to go as low as $199 this season!

-now check out WalMart.com! WII has been lowered to $199!!! No need to wait until Black Friday!

$3 Appliances - Target will be running $3 toasters and coffee makers on Black Friday, stock up!

The Snuggie - this will be the year of the Snuggie. If you have been in stores this month, stores are already setting their floor with Snuggies. You can find the original Snuggie brand and also knock-offs made of better fabric for a higher price. Snuggies for kids and dogs already on sale. Another similar item is the "Slanket" which is a better fabric and higher price.

Netbooks - With the huge push of affordable netbooks this year, expect to see these as doorbusters in electronics stores. Internet and phone providers I will also run deals on netbooks in combination with internet services.

eBook - the eBooks and readers are gaining popularity and should be a key electronic item this year. I see more and more of these in public.

Towels and Pillows - low doorbuster prices of $2.99 and $3.99 towels and pillows will always be a big hit as well as any other utility items

I have already seen Dell selling the Nintendo wii for $20 below list price online only.

Kmart are going to have a netbook at $120 or less apparently, but I don't know if it will be rubbish or not. At that price it may well be so weak that it wont be much use.

  • Strategies: Small businesses can get Black Friday bargainsUSA Today26 hours ago

Going shopping on Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving is a tradition in my family. No, we don't get there at 4 a.m., and we concentrate on mundane bargains (socks and kitchen gadgets are perennial choices). But Black Friday and the following Cyber Monday can also be a great time to go shopping for your small business.
