Black Hair Growth
73Black Hair Growth
The condition of black hair is generally dry and requires special treatment. Mentioned below are some tips that can be followed in order to maintain healthy growth.
Hair needs to be washed on a weekly basis, preferably after a pre-wash treatment which consists of the application of oil-based products, such as coconut oil, or other organic oils, which are quality pre-shampoos that can be used since they penetrate the hair. It is good to apply any one of these oils and keep it on for at least thirty minutes before washing it off with a gentle shampoo. Make sure you always use a shampoo that is gentle in its ingredients and that you washing and rinse your hair only once, otherwise hair can become dry. This condition can lead to hair breakage, which can be kept to a minimum if the scalp is massaged while hair is being washed, to ensure thicker hair growth.
When selecting a conditioner it is good to use two types such as a protein-based conditioner and a moisturizing conditioner. In there is only one type of conditioner, a good solution would be to use an egg to replace the protein treatment. Deep conditioning must be done using both conditioners. First use the protein conditioner and after rinsing the hair, the moisture treatment must be applied. If a pre-shampoo is used, moisturizing treatment can be skipped.

Relax Your Hair
It is good to relax hair but it must not be done more often than once a month. Before relaxing hair, make an assessment. It is better that a stylist applies the relaxer than doing it by yourself, since the entire hair must be covered with scalp protectant. Petroleum jelly is one option. Particular attention must be given to the ends of the hair when applying the protestant. The relaxer must be applied with great care. A timing chart must be carefully followed in order not to overdo it. A shampoo must be applied and hair needs to be washed and rinsed at least three times. Traces of relaxer should not remain in the hair. Once the relaxer has been removed, shampoo must be applied once again. The neutralizer can then be rinsed out followed by the protein and moisture treatment.
It is good to moisturize hair on a daily basis. This allows the hair to remain healthy and shiny. Both oil and water-based moisturizer can be used, with different outcomes, since oil-based moisturizers coat the hair and water-based ones penetrate the hair. For effective results, first use the water based moisturizer and then the oil based moisturizer. To help dealing with dryness, the best option is to use a penetrating moisturizer like coconut oil, which penetrates hair while other oils which only coat it.
Before hot-curling ensure that the hair is well moisturized. Do not use hairspray when curling hair; using the iron instead should define the curls. The use of hairspray or spritz might result in hair breaking. Waves, braids and wigs can cause hair to break as well because hair tends to reject substances that are foreign. In the event of wearing a wig, hair must be moisturized first. One way to grow black hair much longer is to incorporate suitable vitamins that encourage hair growth.

I agree with Nappturall, it is ridiculous to suggest that black hair needs to be relaxed to grow healthy and long. It's a personal choice and most relaxed heads I know are short and broken. Relaxers are the problem not the solution. Geez, with info like this circulating no wonder black women have so many issues with their hair!

Its not good to relax your hair..its unhealthy. Afro hair is already dry and chemicals dry it out more.
