Black Men Skin Care
63If you have black skin, then you might find that general skin care products don't work quite well for you. That is because black men skin care has different needs. Take for example razor bumps. Studies have shown that 60%-80% of black men suffer form razor bumps at some degree. Why is the skin darker? The reason why the skin is darker is because of the amount of melanin in the skin. The higher the amount of melanin, the darker the skin becomes. The melanin has a very important function: it is the pigment that protects us from the sun. You can see why black people come from sunny places in the world like Africa, Australia and the Caribbean. This protection also works in keeping skin younger than in white skin people for example. But as years passes, the skin becomes irregularly pigmented, showing as dark patches.
So how could we take care of black skin?
First, you have to understand the different tones of skin. There are many tones of black skin, and you have to learn which products work best for you, depending on your tone. Now, in the market, there are certain products made with black men in mind. These are products that keep in mind the differences. Black skin care products need heavy oil that penetrates the skin while not leaving it too oily. The black skin also loose elasticity quite easily, resulting in loose skin, stretch marks and fat globs around some areas.
It is very important also, not to use skin lighteners or bleaching creams. Recently the FDA has proposed a ban on these creams. The creams typically contain a drug called hydroquinone, a possible carcinogen also linked to a skin-disfiguring condition, the FDA said. While the actual risk of the drug is unknown, the agency said the products should be restricted to prescription use under medical supervision. Creams that contain steroids and mercury are even more dangerous.
If you're concerned about irregular pigmentation, use sun screen, it will help prevent this from happening. There are also products available for hyper pigmentation. Remember that your skin is very important, so take care of it appropriately. If you're going to use a product, is much better to ask your doctor first, and to get to know your skin.
