Black Ops Golf: Sport Psychology Gone Bad?
63If golf sports psychologists wear white hats, then the Black Ops golfer is a defiant "black hat" wearer. Not content with a friendly round (especially when money is involved), they swagger up to the tee with an arsenal of psychological "black art" tricks that would make any serious sport psychologist cringe.
"Just win, baby" would be their motto.
And they do.
So What the Heck IS Black Ops Golf?
"You can hypnotize people with their eyes wide open."
Ok, that is the essence of Black Ops Golf.
Black Ops Golf™ is based on the hypnosis principles pioneered in the mid-70's by famous psychologist Milton Erickson, as well as the work in a field called NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) by John Grinder and Richard Bandler.
Although I've never heard this specific term used, you might call it "covert persuasion" -- that is, using both overt language and subtle body language in subliminal ways to influence the behavior of others ... in this case, influencing your golfing partners to miss putts, hack tee shots, and spray irons into the trees ... all with their unwitting (and unaware) participation.
You see, most of these techniques are so powerful and invisible to all but the most astute that your golfing partners may actually think that you are "Mr. Nice Guy" while all this is going on.
In fact, it is so powerful that you will be able to "persuade" players who are better than you to play poorly -- and if you are betting, whether on a friendly Nassau or a down-and-dirty high stakes skins game, this could mean big money in YOUR pockets.
Bill Gladwell, Black Ops Golf co-founder, says of these little-known techniques: “We’ve simply taken these effective tools and used them in ways that no one else has ever dared. This leads to dominance on the golf course for our students.”
"Do You Want Fries With That Triple Bogey?"
We all get subjected to OVERT suggestive selling all the time -- and we RESPOND!
"Do you want fries with that?" has become a touchstone of American culture, and even though we know its bad for us (and costs more), somehow the image and taste of those crunchy, salty morsels of fried potato are just too much to resist.
So don't tell me that people can't be persuaded even against their own best interests -- especially covertly, when they don't even know its happening.
Besides, whatever their charms and skills, your local drive-through clerk just isn't schooled in the subtle and secret arts of waking-hypnosis. You can't learn this stuff just anywhere (most sports psychologists don't even know how to do this,) and the greater golfing establishment ISN'T supporting ANYONE learning how to do this "black hat" subliminal persuasion.
The question is, do you want to win?
If so, you should check out Black Ops Golf-- but make sure you DON'T let the manual slip into the wrong hands. Sure, winning a golf side bet is a good thing, but with the wrong kind of personality, these powerful invisible persuasion techniques could get downright dangerous ....
