Black skinny jeans, red skinny jeans, purple skinny jeans and even white skinny jeans continue to be the center of attention in the world of teen fashion this year. Once upon a time, these skinny jeans we're a hot number back in the 80's and it seems that much of that decades fashion pieces, blunders, faux pas' and all, are crawling back on the runway one garment at a time.

Being an 80's child myself, I'd rather forget the big hair and leggins then sport a pair of red skinnies, but my teenage daughter insists on filling her closet with every possible color of skinny jeans. Who am I to argue? After all, Iam guilty of having worn some pretty tacky stuff back in those days. Although I do find black skinnies to be particularly sexy paired with some awesome boots, a recent rip to the mall made me realize that not all skinnies are made alike.

Wanting every pair of skinnies is one thing, but buying them is another! Every store has them and every pair has a different price tag, some as much as $100 a pop, (luckily, designer stores are scarce around here!) of course, I couldn't phantom the thought of spending more than 30 dollars for denim, however, I do have 4 children and try to look for deals and that I did. Buy one pair for $39.99 and get the second half price!!

I thought I had found the deal of the century....not! After only one day, the embellishments started falling off one at a time and the stitching unraveled. The denim used to make these skinnies were poor quality to say the least. I can't believe I missed that, but then again, I am cheap, but cheap doesn't always pay off in the long run. Come to think of it, I have never spent more than $50 for my jeans, and never once was I completely satisfied with them.

Now that I am no longer oblivious, I realize there is more to a good pair of jeans than the price tag. For example, Japanese and Italian denim are among the best in the world and many brands use this denim in their line of jeans, however, knowing which brands use quality Japanese or Italian denim is not always easy.

I suggest you ask the sales clerk for this information, if they don't have a clue then move on to the next store. Look at the stitching to see if it has week spots. Try them on and walk around in the store to see just how comfortable they really are, good denim is comfy and moves with you. Read the tag! Cotton is soft and supple and contours to your shape nicely, add a percentage of polyester to that mix, and your jeans are not as comfortable. Look for 95-98% cotton with 2-5% spandex.
