Blackhead and how to remove balckhead
69What is blackheads
A blackhead occurs when the pore opens to the surface, and the sebum, which contains the skin pigment melanin, oxidizes and turns a brown/black color. It is not dirt and can not be washed away. Blackheads can last for a long time because the contents very slowly drain to the surface. A blackhead or whitehead can release its contents to the surface and heal. Or, the follicle wall can rupture and inflammatory acne can ensue (see below). This rupture can be caused by random occurrence or by picking or touching the skin. This is why it is important to leave acne prone skin relatively untouched.
Blackheads are small "plugs" that develop in the pores of the skin.
They are caused when the over active sebaceous (oil producing) glands
in the skin become clogged with oil. This sebum then begins to harden
in the pore. Since skin pores are open to the air, the top part of the
hardened sebum or oil oxidizes, turning black. This black top of the
oil plug is then forced closer to the surface of skin by the oil
hardening beneath it. This then causes the blackhead to be visible.
It
is not clearly understood why the sebaceous glands begin to become
overactive. It is often noted that this situation begins at puberty,
and may stop at the end of puberty leading to the conclusion that it is
hormonally controlled. For some people this is not the case however,
and they may continue to experience blackheads and whiteheads well past
puberty and into adulthood. Whiteheads are formed the same way as
blackheads with the exception that the pore is closed and the oxidation
does not occur.
Acne results from infection of the oil gland due
to the blockage by the blackhead. Preventing and removing blackheads
helps to control acne.In general this is a genetic or hormonal condition that occurs randomly
across gender and ethnicity. A normal functioning pore produces a
normal amount of sebum (oil). When a normal amount of oil is produced,
it effortlessly moves through the pore and out onto the surface of
skin, where it melts into an imperceptible film forming a protective,
healthy barrier over the face. The amount of oil produced is regulated
almost exclusively by hormones, specifically androgens, which are the
hormones that create masculine human characteristics. In short, when a
combination of skin cells and too much sebum are trapped inside a pore
and the pore is not covered over by skin, the clog is exposed to air,
causing cells and sebum to oxidize and resulting in the dark color of a
blackhead (this coloring is strictly from oxidation, not because skin
is dirty).
When
choosing a blackhead remover, there are a few things to consider. The
most important thing is do you really need one? If you are constantly
suffering from blackheads, it'll be an important tool. Sure, you could
use your fingers, but your fingers are never sterile and can spread the
bacteria that comes out of the blackhead all over your face. Eww!
There are essentially two types of blackhead removal
tools, the stainless steel tools and the vacuums. Both have their pros
and cons, which we'll take a look at below. The best blackhead removal
tools will also get rid of pimples, so it's certainly handy to have one on hand for when you need it.
The Blackhead Remover
The
regular type of blackhead removal tool is the stainless steel type that
pushes the crap out of your pores. These tools are extremely effective,
cheap, and easy to keep sterile. The main downside of using these are
that they can damage the tissue beneath the face. The stainless steel
is much harder than your fingers, and if you push too hard, you are
risking damage below the surface which can increase your chances of acne scars.
Sterilization
is extremely important when removing blackheads. Before beginning, you
should thoroughly wash your face and hands. If you're using one of
these blackhead removal tools, it should also be sterilized with
rubbing alcohol. The reason that this is so important is because after
the blackhead is gone, an open wound remains. Open wounds on your face
are magnets for infection, which is extraordinarily worse than dealing
with blackheads.
Blackhead Removal Vacuums
Blackhead
removal vacuums are almost a novelty, the operate on batteries and suck
the crap out of your pores. They work by creating a suction between a
cup and your face and use a fan to draw air out, pulling the blackhead
out with it. People experience mixed results with these, and the
biggest complaint that most have is that they are difficult to keep
clean (remember sterilization from above?). Another issues is that they
are much more expensive than the tools that just push the blackhead
out.
Either method you choose, you can always beat acne and
blackheads with a healthy, vegetable based, diet and a face wash
regimen that you can stick to. If you suffer from severe acne, you may
want to look into acne treatment systems that will clear up your skin
quickly. Most people will be able to take care of their acne this way,
but if nothing is working, pay a visit to the dermatologist and see
what other options are available to you.

some tips for removing blackheads
Blackhead Removal
The following are some tips for removing blackheads:
-
Keep the skin as clean and oil free as possible. Use natural or
chemically prepared cleansers, astringent solutions or masks to
accomplish this. Avoid harsh soaps that may irritate the skin or any
creams that leave an oily finish.
- Use a gentle exfoliant to keep the dead cells off your skin and away from the pore openings.
-
Avoid harsh squeezing or scraping at the blackhead. Excessive squeezing
can damage the skin surround the pore and can actually increase the
size of the pore leading to more blackheads in the future.
- A warm
compress of water applied to the area of the blackhead followed by a
very, very gentle pressure can help in clearing the clog from the pore.
-
Commercial "blackhead strips" which are basically a tape like substance
that is placed over the nose and then pulled off will remove some
blackheads that are at the surface. Caution should be used with these
products and it is important to read the directions completely before
deciding to use the strips or not.
