The ATP Champions Tour

If you're a tennis fan and aren't aware about the ATP Champions Tour, then you're in for a treat. The ATP Champions Tour is made up of ex players who are no longer active on the ATP Tour itself. Criteriors for being eligible to play on this tour are that:

  • A player must have been ranked world number 1
  • A player must have reached a grand slam final
  • A player must have played singles on a winning Davis Cup team

Going to watch an event on the ATP Champions Tour means that you are going to see some legends of tennis play, both competitive singles and doubles matches, as well as exhibition matches that provide tennis masterclasses with fun, humour and quite a few surprises!

Where Can I see The ATP Champions Tour?

Eight events take place around the globe, they can be seen in:

  • Florida, US (New event from 2010)
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • San Paulo, Brazil
  • Algarve, Portugal
  • Paris, France
  • Chengdu, China
  • Turin, Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • London, England

The AEGON Masters

The AEGON Masters is the last leg of the year long ATP Champions Tour. It is held from the first Tuesday through to Sunday in December and takes place at the Royal Albert Hall. For anyone who is a true tennis fan, this event is a must.

I've grown up watching tennis since I was a baby, it's a huge passion in my life. Going to watch the then called Blackrock Masters was a dream come true. The Royal Albert Hall is such an amazing setting, it couldn't be more perfect for the event.

In the singles tournament, eight players are split into two groups and compete in round robin matches Tuesday through Saturday. On Sunday the final is held. I had the pleasure of seeing John McEnroe play, which was another dream come true in itself. He's always been up there for me in men's tennis. Second only to Andre Agassi, whom I truly hope will one day decide to join the ATP Champions Tour.

Aside of seeing these legends compete in such an opulent surrounding, there is also a huge fun factor about the AEGON Masters - and I'm sure the other ATP Champions Tour events too. Players such as Henri Leconte and Mansour Bahrami provide amazing displays of tennis skills with lots of silliness and laughs thrown in during their exhibition matches.

If you're a tennis fan with a sense of humour you will love the AEGON Masters and other ATP Champions Tour events.
