Bleeding - A poem

Why do we
Go back
To the one who hurts us most?
Why can’t we run from their sword
Hide from their spell?
Instead we run
Right into the blade.
Their smile
Sends our precautions packing
And with every gaze
We think we’ve won them over
Finally reached their soul
So true it seems
It is- for a moment
Just a few brief moments
Until they return to their ways
And hurt all over again
But it is ten times worse
Each time
And the cut is ten times deeper
And soon we’ve lost so much blood
That we feel weak and helpless
The same blade
The same stab
And each time
We run to the same person
Thinking that this time will be different
But how can it be different
It can’t be
When they are not about to change.
How long will this continue?
How long will we let blood
Pour from our heart
Leaving us here at our weakest
And most vulnerable form
Exposing the deepest sinews
Of our soul within
How long will we run towards you
To the only being we really should be fleeing from
I guess we do look away, sometimes
We go on and make do without for a while
And in the meantime
They sharpen their blade
Not because they want to hurts us
But because it is part of who they are
Not because they mean to hurt us
But because our pain lies in how we take them
And just as we can’t help it
They can’t help it
I know I should run
But I’m a fiend- I guess
And even though the touch of your blade
Scores me so deep that even my soul begins to bleed
At least I had your touch just one more time.
