The Greatest Reggae Band?

Sublime.

Bradley Nowell (Lead Singer/Guitarist) Eric Wilson (Bass Guitar) & Bud Gaugh.

The first Punk Rock band that mixes Reggae/Ska & even Hip-Hop/Dub. In the 90's, they became the band everybody else wanted to be. Claiming superstar status, Bradley Nowell quickly began to fall into a downward spiral full of problems, leading to his heroine overdose in 1996, just before their last album was set to release. The third, and final album, "Sublime",(or Self-Titled) made them all quick overnight celebrities. But with Bradley Nowell's death, they had no choice but to split up, and say their goodbyes.

After gaining a significant amount of success in California, Sublime continued to play live shows every night, producing lots of fans in the area, they were ready to put out an album or two. By 1992, Sublime had released their first two album's, "40 Oz to freedom & Robbin The Hood," on Nowell's very own, Skunk records. Selling their first album 40 Oz at live shows, it became an instant hit around the Los Angeles area. L.A's radio station, "KROQ" started to play one of the hit singles of the album called "Date Rape." In 1994, Sublime signed a label deal with MCA records.

In 94-95, Sublime began a huge west coast tour. With Date Rape getting radio play and positive ratings, they started what was the beginning of Sublime's legacy.

"Some jealous punk, snuck up around my back, tried to take a lovin' over me; Lord I got into a fist fight, and wound up in jail all night" - 5446 That's My Number/Ball & Chain

During Sublime's "95" Warped Tour experience, the band got heavily involved with drugs. Bud was arrested on several different occasions for possession of marijuana. Bradley also indulged far into drugs, leading to poor guitar performances at live shows. The band's problem with drugs resulted in bringing their dog's onstage, protecting them from any authorities. This became a problem also, as people from the audience were bitten. Sublime was then kicked off the tour, but then brought back later on.

After the Van's Warped Tour, Sublime began recording their last album, which was the follow up to 40 oz. to Freedom. The album was intended to be called "Killin It," but due to Nowell's death prior to the album release, they agreed upon a no name album (self-titled.) The album was an incredible success. In 1999, the album went five times platinum and it has sold over five million copies in the US alone. The cd had seven singles on it.
