Web Blogs

The first time I took notice of blogs was when news on TV about the internet mentioned that people have been handsomely earning from them. Not aware on how it pays, I went online to research on it. Most that were mentioned then were about keywords or tags that are frequently searched online. That again confused me. I wondered how those keywords and tags would pay. Deeper into my research, I found out that income was being earned through Adsense! It was difficult for me to understand the ins-and-outs of how Adsense works until I joined some sort of a article writing site. It was similar to hubpages but it did not require traffic or readership from outside. Only members read the articles and the only ones allowed to make comments.

Blog Numbers

Out of curiosity, I researched on the total number of blogs on the internet. Reading the article at WSJ.com there was lot to be said about blogs and it's impact. World wide estimate has it there to be around 31.6 million blog sites. BlogPulse and Technocrati have it at 11 million and 10 million respectively. By the way, this article was posted in May 26, 2005. So this is talking about 3 years ago. Knowing that the article is sort of a "history" compared to the present I just read on relevant matters about the numbers on blogs. Different entities though making surveys or doing counts vary in opinion and numbers. Technorati has it between 800,000 to 900,000 posts per day while BlogPulse indicates only 350,000 to 450,000 a day!

The difference could account for posts duplicated or more. It's like posting here at HubPages and then linked to Facebook and Blogspot. Personally, I believe linking posts to other blog sites count for Technorati but not for BlogPulse. The reason why they have such a large variance in their estimates. In the last 24 hours as of this writing, Blogpulse has a total identified blogs of 78,703,197 with newly registered blogs of 93,041 and blog posts of 619,841! Considering those figures, we can estimate how individually small we are against that!

What's with This

Why did I write this article? First, one of my personal sites where I focused on blog advertisements has now a Pagerank 2! That site is just a little over 2 years and a half as of now. If I am not mistaken, that site is more of a social site than a blog site. The real reason I got into it was because it offered a sub-domain site for free! I was just experimenting on it with another website I had earlier but was having problems on editing and dashboard panel. This site has customer support but had frequent problems which probably was the reason it was not getting enough traffic as the other.

In short, this is where you exactly see the impact of blogs. But mind you, it was not because of keywords, tags, Adsense or traffic. It was because of backlinks that gave the pageranking in a short period. The truth is I have more keywords, tags, Adsense and traffic to my blogspot but it is not ranking any better than my onesite blog. Earnings? Yes it gave me the biggest earnings I have ever realized online.
