Blogger or Wordpress?
74Which is the best free blog hosting provider?
First of all, this is a comparison of Wordpress.com's free blog hosting service and blogger.com's similar service. Wordpress.org, which offers free blog software that you can install on your own domain and hosting account to self host a blog, is something completely different from Wordpress.com, although it is provided by the same company. If you are looking to host your own blog on your own domain I would recommend using Wordpress above any other solution, but in this article I'd like to looking into free blog hosting solution. Now let's explore some of the differences between blogger's and wordpress's free blogs.
Blogger
When you sign up for a free blog on blogger you will get your very own blog that will look something like http://yourblog.blogspot.com. There are many pre-exisitng layouts to choose from. Once you have chosen your layout you are free to edit it as you wish to further cutomize the look and feel of your blog and add any third party scripts or html code, such as any analytics scripts or ads.
Wordpress
When you sign up for a free blog on Wordpress.com you will get your very own blog that will look something like http://yourblog.wordpress.com. You are free to choose your own theme which you are allowed to customize to some extent by changing header graphics and adding sidebar widgets, but it doesn't allow as much customization as blogger does. You are not able to actually edit the html code of your blog's layout directly, and you can not add any third party scripts. This prevents you from using any third party analytics, but wordpress does offer internal analytics tracking which you can access from within your wordpress acount.
Which is better?
This questions is hard to answer since it depends on your individual needs and purpose for blogging. Wordpress is a little easier to use for most people. It also has more of a community feel to their blogs. If you are looking to discuss various topics and have new people read your blog without actually making an effort to promote your blog Wordpress would probably be a good solution for you. If you write great content regulary many people will likely find your blog directly from withing the wordpress.com community.
If your main purpose for starting a blog is to make money or promote your website, however, blogger is definately the way to go. Wordpress.com does not allow any ads or promotion of any third part websites, while blogger actually encourages it to an extent (Google owns blogger and adsense and offers blogger users the ability to run adsense ads on thier blogs). If you even attempt to use Wordpress.com to promote your own website, run ads, or promote products as an affiliate you will very likely just get your blog banned.
If your goal is to make money, use blogger. If your goal is to just express your ideas and get other people to read and comment on you writing, and you don't care about monetray compansation for your efforts, use wordpress.
