Blogging Tips - 10 Secrets Of Successful Blogging
63With everyone talking about blogging, is it really possible to blog successfully for your business? Can you really make money with a blog?
Yes. But it does take some work. It's not like a website where you hire a designer to design it, and leave it set for months at a time. You have to work at it every week.
Get started with these tips, and you'll soon be on your way to successful blogging.
1. Start with a purpose. What do you want to talk about in your blog? Every post should be related to your end purpose, and help you create an informative blog that accomplishes your goals.
2. Create a theme. Maybe your blog is built around photos or videos. Maybe you title certain posts in the same manner. A great blog develops patterns, and gives the reader something to look forward to.
3. Define your categories. Your categories are how you organize your posts, and provide an easy way for people to find your information. Make your categories fun and informative at the same time.
4. Write content regularly. Whether it's two or three sentences, or a few paragraphs, make sure each post is well thought out and offers the reader quality content. Would you want to read your posts?
5. Add your personality. A blog is more than information; it's a reflection of you as an individual. Tell a little about your personal life. Talk about your interests and the things you are doing. It's okay to make "small talk" in your blog, similar to how you chat a few minutes in a face-to-face meeting before you get down to business.
6. Add photos, videos, and other fun graphics. As a photographer, I love images. And I'm not alone. Photos and videos add so much to your posts, and break up the text, making it more readable. You can always take your own photos to upload with your posts, or head over to YouTube and grab a video.
7. Link to other sites to become a resource. Give your readers value and share your expertise. Just because you know and love a site doesn't mean your readers have ever heard of it. Talk about your resources, give reviews, and hyperlink over to the site.
8. Ask questions to get the comments going. Occasionally end your posts with a question. This works well when you have an idea that surrounds controversy or a current event. Keep in mind most people are readers, but once you get the comments started, you can increase your questions.
9. Listen, watch, read. You can find a new topic every day just by paying attention to the world around you. I've done posts based on what I read in the newspaper, what I hear DJs talking about on the radio, and on television shows from the night before. Just relate what you're experiencing to the theme of your blog, and start blogging.
10. Advertise your blog. It's a lot of fun to write and post to a blog - but if no one is reading it, it won't do you business any good. Add your blog to directories, use your URL in your signature, and let your clients know you blog. Get the word out there.

Pictures and video are good ways to break up the "white space" and text. I admit that I tend to scan blogs that only have text.
