Blood Pressure Tablets

Blood pressure tablets is another way of saying blood pressure medication.

Millions of people around the world need to take medication every day to help them control their blood pressure level. For the most part these medications are indeed "blood pressure tablets" - although naturally nowadays some of them are to be found in capsule format or even as liquid.

Remembering to take your blood pressure medication regularly is crucial if you are going to obtain good control of your high blood pressure. Some people make charts for the wall at home, others use reminder timers and a few even invest in software that charts their blood pressure reading as well as reminding them when their medication is due.

Blood pressure tablets - different types

There are several different types of blood pressure tablet in common use today.

They can be divided into groups by using a A B C D framework. New guidelines recommend combining drugs from different groups to obtain better blood pressure control.

Group A - the ACE inhibitor tablets

This group of blood pressure tablets contains medications like lisinopril, enalapril, perindopril, fosiniopril and others that work in a very similar manner. The key is in the suffix -pril at the end of the word. All ACE inhibitor tablets have names that end in "pril"

Group B - the Beta Blockers

Beta blocker drugs have been around for many years and are still widely used in the treatment of blood pressure problems. In recent times they are no longer seen as first choices but are still often used in combination with other types of drug. Common beta blockers are atenolol, metoprolol, propanolol and bisoprolol

Group C - the Calcium Channel Blockers

The most popular calcium channel blocker drug is called amlodpine and it is probably the single most prescribed blood pressure tablet worldwide.

Group D - the Diuretics

Diuretics remain popular as blood pressure tablets. They are sometimes used alone for blood pressure treatment but are more often used in combination with one of the other drug types. A combination of an ACE inhibitor along with a diuretic is often a very effective way of controlling blood pressure.

Blood pressure natural remedies are also becoming much more popular as people strive to find a way to lower their BP readings without resorting to drugs or medication at all.
