Bloody Trout Book Review: "The Convalescent" by Jessica Anthony
53Ladies and gentlemen, I have read a plethora of books about mute, midget, hairy, Hungarian's, living and selling meat out of broken down school buses in Virginia, but never have i read a book about a mute, midget, hairy Hungarian living and selling meat out of a broken down school bus in Virgina quite like this before! And I mean that in a very very good way! This story has it all, including an in depth historical look into the early "11" tribes of Hungarians and how they evolved...or in some cases...didn't evolve.
Jessica Anthony, with her debut, "The Convalescent" daringly sends us through a true metamorphosis of one little man, who seems to be the last of his kind and shows that with a little love, the most unappealing of creatures can become something truly beautiful.
"The Convalescent" is a book that I highly recomend reading. It's both quick and powerful with hints of humour and sadness.
"The Convalescent" by Jessica Anthony is published in hardback by McSweeney's Publishing
