What ever brand of pet food you decide to feed to your cat or dog make sure the pet food does not include Corn, Wheat, or Soy. These three grains are killers. Corn, Wheat and Soy are toxic to cats and dogs. Cats and dogs are meat eaters and should not be fed grains. The grains are included in pet food not as a benifit to cats and dogs but only to cut the cost of producing pet food.
Dogs and Cats on a diet which includes corn, wheat, or soy will develope "hot spots" on the skin, hair loss, itching and scratching, flaky skin, paw licking, elevated body temperature, ear infections, swelling, increased nail growth, moles, enlarged kidneys, enlarged liver, blindness, heart conditions, tumors, and eventually will die an early death. - Susan Peters

Cochhrane,
I'm sorry, I have no affilation with Blue. I can tell you that Blue is made by American Nutrition. Maybe they can help?
Please keep us advised. Our prayers are with you.
Susan
This recall is serious for anyone who is reading this! I had my dog on Blue Buffalo. and at one yr he did of intestinal problems caused by the dog food.
Change dog food immediatly!
Brittany,
Thank you for the warning!
Susan
look i have been using blue buffalo for over 4 years and all of my pets are doing better then ever i have never had a problem with them in fact ever since i started using them 4 yrs ago my dogs coats have never been better and there very lively and havent even caught the kennel cough virus that was going around the boarding facility they were at last year.and trust me i know there was a huge out break because i work for the facility and there were over 75 cases from the same week my dogs boarded
Intestinal issues aren't always caused by foods. I've had my babies on it since they were born and they are in exceptional health. I have show cats and they are in the finest condition and win big based solely on coat and muscle tone. Also, only the canned food is made by American Nutrition. The quality and content is fabulous, and although I go on a case by case basis, its usually what I recommend.
There appears to be some sort of anti-Blue Buffalo sentiment associated with this website and the reviews. When you (Susan Peters) give Cesar Gourmet dog food a better review than Blue Buffalo Holistic dog food - I sense something personal is going on. My oldest dog was on Cesar Gourmet dog food because he is finicky and that's all he would eat. He had hot spots on his body, his coat was dry, etc. When I bought a puppy - I put both dogs on Blue Buffalo products (weaned the older dog off the Cesar) and both are doing very well. No more dry coat, hot spots, etc. on the older dog and he has much more energy then he used to. I've talked to many vets and none of them would recommend Cesar Gourmet dog food over Blue Buffalo. Shame on you Susan Peters!!
Just found thousands of small hairs in the Buffalo Blue kibble...totally gross. So they don't use by-products? I guess they do!!! Road kill maybe? With the skins and all.
I liked the idea of Blue Buffalo so much that I started my dog on it. She developed a skin problem, but I thought it was hot spots from the environment. I went to a local dog food by Wysong and the hot spots cleared up. However, I recently reintroduced my Sheltie/Collie to Blue dry and canned and she once again has the hot spots. Coincodence?
I don't know, but I am taking her off Blue. If it returns next fall off Blue I will know it is not the food. Why take a chance.
Did any of the above 'nay-sayers' actually read the statement by Blue? It was a product tampering issue that Blue neither knew of nor agreed to. In my opinion, I'm glad that Blue stepped up and informed their customers of this matter, rather than trying and squash it - that to me is commendable and does illustrate they are concerned about their product and our pets. I have had my dog on Blue now for a month and have noticed only positive results. I would rather buy a product from a health conscious, small in size pet food company rather than from a grocery line product any day of the week. I would recommend it to anyone - and do! Good luck to all.
Don't you think that it is about time that you either updated this email to reflect the quality of the Blue for 2008 and 2009?
or get more CURRENT FACTS!!!!!
December, 2009: BEWARE of Blue Spa canned cat food. Blus Spa is being very secretive. Unlike other manufacturers I have queried for years, Blue Spa refuses to reveal the pH of their canned cat food, Secretiveness is a big sign of something wrong in manufacturing or ingredients. Something isn't going according to Hoyle.
I recommend avoiding all products from this manufacturer.
I have an 8 month old Shih tzu who used to be on Royal Canin and hated it so I decided to switch to Blue and he seems to really like the taste. Now reading the review I have a sick feeling in my stomach even though the particular food that I use is not part of the recall (he's on the puppy formula). I'm so confused about dog food. It seems like every website you go to about dog food they all promise healthy, natural and the best ingredients. I've been toying with the idea of switching him to a homemade dog food diet and I think after reading the recall I'm gonna do it. I'm sick of these companies jerking us around. And not to mention Blue ain't cheap either. The nerve.
