Free radicals are unstable molecules that are associated with advancing the aging process and are linked to many diseases. Antioxidants help to neutralize these free radicals in the body. Many fruits have these antioxidants but blueberries are thought now to be the highest in that category.

Per one cup, blueberries have 14 mg. of vitamin C and 0.8 mg of vitamin E, which are both natural antioxidants.

Studies have been done on mice that were fed blueberries, and the results showed their brains to be sharper and more active than the mice who were not fed the berries. Researchers say that the element that gave the mice neuron protection is the same element that gives blueberries their color.
