Ever want to know if a person is lying to you? Have they come in late to work which prompted them to think of a silly excuse to being late? In this hub are a couple of ways in which you can tell whether the person is lying or telling the truth.

If the person is lying...

If the person is lying, they will tend to look up and to the left with their eyes. This usually means the person is making up an imaginary story in their head trying to come up with a quick, believable answer.

Another way is their facial expressions. If the person aviods eye contact with you, that means te person is probably lying.

If they hands touch the face or any parts of or near the face, the person is lying.

If at any time you are talking to the person and he/she turns around or turns away not facing you, this is a way to detect a lie.

If they use contractions, such as "didn't" instead of "did not", they are probably not lying. If the so called 'liar' takes a long period of time in between emotions or other conversational factors, that person is lying.

If the person is telling the truth...

If the person is telling the truth, they will tend to look up to the right instead of the left, meaning they are trying to remember what the answer was to the question and not make up an answer. For example, if you ask someone, "What did you have for dinner last night?" If they look up and to the left, they are making up a story, or a lie. If they look up and to the right, they are trying to remember what they had for dinner.

And obviously if the person makes good eye contact, stays generally calm, meaning not moving suddenly or touching the face, and has good communication skills, the person is probably not lying.

Thanks for the read-

Hi John, this is a good hub. I had read these rules somewhere a long time, but I did not remember them. Thank you for the reminders.

Some of this may be true, but if you knew this information wouldn't that tend to give a lier the edge. What I would like to see is video of politicians that could be commented on as to weather what their expressions tell you about the truthfukness of what they say in public. That would make a great reality show don't you think?Better yet hook them up to a lie detector just for the fun of seeing them squirm while they try lying to you! Although they may try to be more self-consious of what they say.I think that's one of the reasons they are told to use telepromters.

It's like doing an infomercal.

I need a video of Pelosi when she was speaking about that briefing or whatever. PLEASE watch that and you will tell when she is lying when she studders.

Interesting stuff, John. I'll keep this stuff in mind, next time I ask a waiter, "do you eat lunch at this restaurant, and if so, what's good?" lol
