While the facial acne is quite visible with body acne you can slightly play around with and hide them by wearing cloths strategically. The response to the body acne treatment is primarily slow. Good skin care creams and gels which are available in the market do give response but the progress is generally very slow. The results are evident some time even after weeks. So most important thing for handling body acne is to continue with regimen of applying over the counter creams, even though the results may not be evident. Body acne affects males slightly more than females. The body acne treatment can be divided in to two parts.

• Body acne treatment for mild and moderate cases • Body acne treatment for severe cases.

Mild to moderate body acne

• Mild to moderate body acne can be cured by over the counter good gels and lotions. Though response starts showing up quite late but the patience pays.

• Pads having benzoyl peroxide are applied onto the affected body parts for more focused treatment.

• Body cleansing with Salicylic acid can be taken up 3-4 times a day to increase the effectiveness.

• Other lotions having Alpha hydroxyl acids such as glycolic and lactic acids can be employed. Alpha hydroxyl acids also increase the cell turnover and help in fighting loss of tissues.

• Skin can bear slightly more concentrated solution than a face so the lotions with more concentrated benzoyl peroxide can be used.

• Neck is a sensitive area. So proper care needs to taken while applying lotions and gels over neck.

Over moderate and severe acne

• Severe body acne is difficult to control. So the best recourse is to visit a physician as early as possible.

• The treatments prescribed by physician are generally o Retin A o Oral antibiotics o Accutane treatment o Comedo extraction

Precautions:

• Avoid going out in sun and open. This is because exposure to dust will increase the irritation and will lead to inflammation.

• Avoid applying oil based make ups.

• Avoid swimming altogether as excess chlorine present in water can increase the irritation and you may also pass on your infection to others who might be sharing the pool with you.

• Wear only white cotton cloths as benzoyl peroxide can bleach your clothes even after it has been completely dried.

• Don't touch acne with your hands. Avoid playing with their ends. Plucking them out and forcing them open with hands can sometimes leaves permanent scars.

• Avoid wearing revealing cloths.
