What is Bollywood?

Bollywood is an umbrella term referring to the film industry of India.

Take Hollywood add in Bombay, and you get a new word "Bollywood".

Hindustani, Hindi and Urdu are some of the dialects used in Bollywood films. but English is also gaining a foothold with songs and in dialogue in English, as this language becomes more widely-known in India, and as Bollywood tries to increase it's export market into areas of North America.

Bollywood is the largest film market in the world vis a vis films released and box office tickets sold, pulling in over one billion dollars annually.

Costumes and sets are a central feature in most Bollywood productions, harkening back to Hollywood of the 1950s. Garish colors, over-the-top designs, and exotic locales are all essential parts of Bollywood films.

And don't forget the most essential part of any Bollywood production— the showcasing of musical numbers and hot dance routines. Bollywood films provide intricately-choreographed , wide-scale dance scenes with specially composed songs.

Widely popular everywhere in the world, Bollywood films are super-popular not only by the large numbers of Indians and Pakistanis living in non-asian countries, also in Afghanistan, and similarly featured in Iran and other parts of the Arab world; this is because the high-level production values and voluminous entertainment extravaganza they provide the audience.

Bollywood is a success and it will continue to be so long as it sticks to it's simple formula: give more bang for your buck!
