She burst upon the world stage, winning the Miss World crown in 1994. The former architecture major soon became one of India's most famous models landing a prestigious Pepsi campaign and appearing in Vogue Magazine. Rai made her film debut in Mani Rathnam's "Iruvar" (1997). Her performance in Rahul Rawail's "...Aur Paar Ho Gaya" (1997) garnered her the Best Female Debutante Award. In 2000 she was awarded Best Actress by FilmFare and Zee Cine for her work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam". Aiswarya Rai reteamed with Sajay Leela Bhansali in "Devdas," most successful film in Bollywood history. It became the first Bollywood picture to ever receive a special screening at this year's Cannes Film Festival and broke box-office records in India and the United States. Rai was showered with praise with her performance in the sumptious drama. Julia Roberts calls her "the world's most beautiful woman".

In 2003, Rai became the first Indian actor to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. She recently completed filming "Bride and Prejudice", a re-working of the Jane Austin classic, directed by Gurinder Chadha ("Bend It Like Beckham"). She is set to star in "Chaos" opposite Meryl Streep for French Director Coline Serreau, Roland Joffe's "Singularity" and Barton Randall's "I Know a Place" and will end the year with "Mistress of Spices" once again with Director Gurinder Chadha.

Yana Gupta was born in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) and began modelling in the mid 1990's at the age of 16. Her real name is Yana Synkova which she changed after marriage. She married to Satya Gupta a Pune based artist and her career took a turns toward the east. In 2001 she was named as the new face for 'Lakme cosmetics in India', replacing former Lakme model Lisa RayYana, who’s been modelling since the age of 16, worked in Milan, Paris and Vienna, even working on brands like Nivea and Shiseido before settling India, where her husband is based.

Yana first appeared on big screen to fame with the 'Bijli' number in Dum. She has done three music videos for Shail and Merlin and Jalwa. Although Yana Gupta has been getting acting offers from Bollywood, the stunning Czech beauty is sticking to what she does the best 'song and dance'.

It seems that Yana is only interested in bump-grind act and does not want to graduate to full-fledged roles in films. She knows her strengths and weaknesses quite well. Yana admits that acting isn’t her cup of tea. She knows that she neither has the histrionic skills nor the command over Hindi language. Therefore the Bijli would like to stick to her forte that is raunchy item numbers.

Celina Jaitley was born in Kabul, Afghanistan on 9th June 1981.[1]. She was crowned Miss India in 2001. She has appeared in several movies and music videos (including the Bombay Vikings' Zara Nazron Se Kehdo video). She was born to an Afghan mother and a Kashmiri father in Kabul, Afghanistan. However she grew up in different cities and mostly spent her time in Kolkata, India. Her father is an army officer and her mother, Meeta Jaitley, is a former beauty queen. She has one brother, who is serving in the Indian army. She has said that when she was young, she wanted to join the army herself, either as a doctor or a pilot.

Ilene Hannan posed for French magazine L'Official and the next thing she knew, she was on the phone line with Pooja Bhatt.

"She asked me whether I would like to do a Bollywood film," Ilene says. "I was taken aback by her offer. I didn't know how to react."

The South African model was roped into Pooja's next film, Rog, co-starring Irrfan and Suhel Seth.

"I told Pooja I had only done television commercials and had no acting background," she says. "But she was very sweet and explained that acting was the next step to commercials. She told me that acting was all about giving the right expressions on screen and the rest was taken care of."

Pooja's script demanded a gorgeous woman, who would leave men awestruck.

When quizzed about this, Ilene pauses before replying, "Sometimes I feel flabbergasted!"

Born in Iran, Negar Khan (sometimes credited as Nigar Khan) grew up in Norway, studied in Australia and was pursuing a career in Bollywood until she was deported in February 2005 by Mumbai authorities for working illegally.

Amrita Rao was born in Chitrapur, to a well-to-do Saraswat Brahmin family, on June 17th 1981. In Sanskrit ‘Amrita’ is a drink which gives you immortality. This model-turned-actress has got the talent and beauty to be immortal in viewers mind.

Amrita never really dreamed to be an actress because she though, with no contacts in the film industry, it would be a tough battle, if she wants to establish herself there.
