Episode 3.6 "The Intern in the Incinerator"

Grade: B+

General Summary: A body is found in the incinerator of the Jeffersonian, and Angela only has to take one look at the skull to realize it is one of their interns, Kristen Reardon. Kristen is the daughter of a former employee of the Jeffersonian, and worked in the Authentication department. She was also having an affair with a married man, Dr. Aldridge. Naturally, Booth and Brennan are on a mission to find out who exactly took the life of Kristen, but things can stranger when the chief suspect turns up dead as well. On other fronts, Cam has not told her family that Booth and she broke up, so he has to fake being her boyfriend for a night. Her sister then hits on him. There is also a sub-plot/joke involving whether or not the killer is Gormogon, an ancient group that Kristin was investigating before her death.

What was good: Booth and Brennan's usual nice, touching moment at the end together. Angela jokingly/not so jokingly referring to Hodgins as Gormogon. Hodgins and Zack almost getting arrested. The death of the very arrogant Aldridge. Brennan's quote: "Because I'm smarter than you." The red herring of the Jeffersonian leader.

What was bad: Confusing plot line. Cam's plot line.

Comments: I'm a real fan of this show, and I'm glad it was picked up for a third season. I think the science on it is just fascinating, and am ultimately more interested in the forensics than I am in the actual crime. This episode was alright, but it didn't really touch me hard. The show does feel more of a comedy than a drama, but when it goes for drama, it hits you right in the gut. This one was fluffy, and I didn't find myself really caring for the crime or the girl killed. She was one of the interns there, and Angela's genuine sorrow could have been played more. Why is she the only one that remembers this girl? I kind of wanted to see a little more thoughtfulness on the part of the other doctors for not knowing who they are working with. Booth pointed out at the end that Brennan was betrayed by her home, the Jeffersonian, but I didn't get the feel for that until the last two minutes. It could have been thread better throughout the episode.

Also, I found the plot rather confusing. Wait who killed what with what? Why was her supervisor there when she was killed, and why would Aldridge be stupid enough to kill the girl, even by accident, in front of someone else? It just seemed too convoluted, when they could have been more direct. And the Cam plot line ... pointless. I thought we were done with any references to her and Booth some time ago, and I liked it that way. I'm not sure why they had to drudge it up again, except perhaps to give her something to do. Also, I miss Zack. Give Zack more to do!

Questions I'm Left With: When are Brennan and Booth going to get together already? When are Hodgins and Angela finally going to get her divorce, and get married? Why haven't they been using Zack more, and Cam less? What is happening with Brennan's father? Are Brennan and Booth still going to therapy, and can we see more of that?

Tune in next week!
