Book Review of Tribes - We Need You to Lead Us
58
Who is going to lead the tribes of the future? Why is the old world crumpling? And why are heretics winning (not what you think I promise)? What journey are you on in your business?
These are just some of the questions that Seth Godin writes about in “Tribes – We Need You to Lead Us”. This business book is a bestseller including on the New York Times Bestseller list. Many of you may know Godin from the “Purple Cow” or “Permission Marketing” books or as the founder of Squidoo ( I know that other information site – sorry about that Hub only fans) among a thousand other things. He is a leader online and off and in this book he shares his vision for leaders in this new world.

If you are at all involved or are interested in having a business online, this book is a must read. “Tribes” shows how the world of business has radically changed with Internet.
I recently came across “Tribes” and the cover alone made me pick it up and start reading it in the book store. Yep – good cover does not always mean a good book but it is true here.
No longer are people limited to a small town, a distant country or money in fact. People can connect with other with small similar interest from almost anywhere in the world with a modem. Leaders now can easily lead and coordinate a tribe without much difficult compared to just 10 years ago.
People have a need to connect and share common passions with a common leader – it is just our natural nature.
Tribes today are moving forward. Expanding the boundaries of what we once called business. Going are the old structures, management mentalities and “factories” – you can see this every day in the news. Tribes adjust, grow and rise.
He does points out that though the Internet can do amazing things but it still cannot provide leadership. Real people still must do this. This book is full of example that you can relate to any industry on or off line.
“Tribes - We Need You to Lead Us” is about going beyond the status quo. It is about becoming outstanding. It is about leading without managing it all. It is about empowering others. It takes you on the journey of where we have been, the present state and the future of business.
Seth Godin explains what it takes today to be successful. This is a book to read if you are serious about making a presence and a difference in the world today.
So what is a “Tribe” and why do they need You? Read and find out for yourself.

I had not heard of this book, but from what you described, I think it would be a good read for me. Thanks for reading it and taking the time to review it. And I agree...a good cover can sell me on a book, even if I don't finish what's on the inside.
