The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

This is my first book review so I thought I would start with a classic. The Hobbit is a the tale of an inadvertent adventurer. The well respected and a confirmed home-body, Bilbo Baggins, is dragged into an adventures regarding a treasure and a mysterious map. He learns to deal with wizards, dwarves, ogres, elves, dragons and the magic ring. It all started with an invitation to afternoon tea to get rid of an unwanted guest and ends with fabulous wealth and a great battle.

JRR Tolkien could be referred to as the "father of fantasy". He was one of the first to created a colorful alternative world and gives wonderful explanations of the cultures and languages in this world. Easy to follow narration and a great plot. This book is meant for young adult readers (pre-teens) but is a story that can be enjoyed by all. If you enjoyed Harry Potter this may be a story for you. There are many wonderful audio versions of the book, but I would recommend the one read by Robert Inglis.

Happy Reading

The fact that Tokien created an entire language from scratch for The Lord of the Rings is amazing in itself. No other fantasy series can compare.
