If you liked Sensational Knitted Socksby Charlene Schurch, you'll also like her followup, More Sensational Knitted Socks. What's so amazing about More Sensational Knitted Socksis that Ms. Schurch manages to present an even more impressive array of sock patterns. It's as if there's no end to the number of socks you can create using this book.
Again, knitters are offered all sorts of possibilities: knit from the toe up or cuff down, knit on circulars, 4 or 5 double-pointed needles, knit for virtually any size foot. The book has done the math for you; all you have to do is figure out your gauge and go from there. There are sock patterns for everybody in the family, from lacy socks to cabled socks to ribbed socks. There are socks in Fair Isle and color combinations; once you input your own colors, the different socks you can create are staggering.
The photographs are excellent. You can clearly see how the heel and toes will look. You also have the option to switch up heels and toes to your preference.
Sock patterns are divided up into the number of stitches to a pattern: from four-stitch to ten-stitch repeats. This way, you can choose a pattern based on the number of stitches you'll be knitting on. Or, if a four-stitch pattern won't work on the number of stitches you've cast on, you can either find another stitch pattern to use or figure out a different amount of cast on stitches to make it work.
The patterns are presented in charts and also in row form, so you can choose the way you feel comfortable reading them. The book presents several ways to cast on and bind off, explaining each in detail and why you may select a particular method. It includes clear photographs of these methods so that you can see what each will look like.
Another thing the book does that's invaluable is present a size chart. If you're knitting for someone who isn't around for you to measure their foot (but you know their shoe size), you can knit socks to fit them by following the measurements.
Since sock knitting is so popular right now--due to the portability of socks, the relative inexpensive cost of sock yarn because they're small projects, the many ways of knitting them--it makes sense to invest in a book like this, which allows you a full creative rein in making the socks you want. Just think--you could knit 1,000 variations of socks using the different combinations presented here! You may want to start right now.
