Now, if you’re thinking of stoking up more fire in the romance department after that dream wedding, we invite you to spend a Bora Bora honeymoon. This island is all about the magic of romance, of dreams and of beauty. It mesmerizes and captures your heart with its natural gifts – jaw-dropping sceneries, pristine white (and private!) beaches, lush forests, thriving marine life and hibiscus scented air, all encompassed in one well-protected lagoon. The fact that Bora Bora is a volcanic caldera only adds to its mystic attraction. Mount Otemanu and Mount Pahia, two lofty peaks made of black basalt rock that sits right in the center of this lovely island, is a sight to behold, a fascinating testimony to the island’s volcanic origins.

Bora Bora is actually a small island that belongs to French Polynesia. It is located 143 miles northwest of Tahiti. It is so small that it only spans around 19 miles. The lagoon itself is thrice the size of the island and is surrounded by coral reefs.

Your Bora Bora experience will actually start from the very minute you catch sight of it from the plane. From this viewpoint, you will see a “string of pearls” surrounding this jewel of an island. There are around 30 islets that sit in the outer reef of the main island, which is Bora Bora. You will also see Bora Bora’s famous seven shades of blue. Yes, the colors of its waters are made up of seven gradients of blue, something you have to see for yourself for you to fully understand its fascination.

Now, what can you do in Bora Bora (aside from that, of course)? Here is a quick rundown of what you and your honey can enjoy in this lovely island.

Explore underwater life

A vacation to Bora Bora is not complete without a foray into its waters. Grab your snorkel or scuba gear and discover the wonders that lie beneath its blue waters. The thrill of having multi-colored fish flock around you is quite an experience! There are around 1,000 species of fish that come in all colors and sizes. Those who are more experienced in diving can also enjoy more of the coral reefs in the lagoon. The waters around Motu Piti Uuuta and off the southern part of Motu Pitiaau, as well as Anau and Point Haamaire, are popular choices for this activity.

Romance on the beach!

Soak up the sun and go on a dip at Point Matira, the island’s most popular beach.  It is also considered one of French Polynesia’s best beaches.

Discover the island

Because of its size, you can go from one point of the island to the other in just one day.  Go on a leisurely biking excursion with your honey and prepare a picnic basket so you can stop at a scenic location of your choice and just drink in the tranquility of the place.

Fly Away

Get on a helicopter that will give you a quick tour of Bora Bora.  There are outfits that offer this service.  All flights require a minimum of four passengers, so be sure to invite a couple you just met to join the ride with you.

Get a little bit of culture

Another option you can try is to visit the temples in the island.  Admittedly, there are only a few left, and the remains of the others can hardly be found.  However, you can try to climb up to Aehautai Marae, which is an old temple and has a great view of Mount Otemanu.  You should also take this opportunity to get to know something of Polynesian cuisine.

Go on a sunset cruise

Picture this, you and your honey cruising along the south Pacific with the fading rays of the sun providing a glorious backdrop.

Other choices

You can also visit the Lagoonarium or go on an island tour.  Of course, with the wonderful beaches, there are plenty of water sports for you to try.  These include para-sailing, water skiing, surfing, windsurfing, aqua safari, kite surfing and jetskiing.  You should also try to experience feeding the sharks and the rays – all at a safe distance, of course. The rays are pretty harmless, you can even get close enough for a kiss!

Bora Bora is a wonderful way to start your married life together.   It is a honeymoon experience that you then you can fall in love with each other all over again.
