A Bumper Sticker That Made MY Day!

Today, while I was driving to the doctors, a car pulled out in front of me. It was an old lady in a gray colored Ford Taurus. Normally I'd take to the action of blaring my horn at her incompetence. But just before my hand reach the center of my steering wheel, I notice the single bumper sticker she had stuck to her car's tail end. It said, "Flush Rush". Immediately she went from being a nuisance, to being my new best friend.

I tell ya, I never considered myself a left wing liberal, but more of an independent. This last Presidential election was the first time in my life that I voted for a democrat presidential candidate. My ballot always resembles a bi-partisan position, voting for candidates that best match up to my overall principles. Never have I voted along one particular party line or another. I consider myself to be an educated, well informed voter. However, I can't help but to think of what my positioning would be today.

I seriously don't think, I'd take the time to research each candidate as diligently as I do. No. Why? Simply because I want nothing to do with Rush, and I want nothing to do with a party that shares his ignorant view points. I'd soon stay as far as I can from the likes of that man. He is an extremists and I feel he is a very dangerous person to have around. As a proud American, I can't help it but to feel that the party of the people, Lincoln's party has all but failed. It is my personal position, that do to the recent onslaught of rhetoric that keeps flowing from Rush Limbaugh's breath, he has single handily turned me into a left wing liberal. Not so much because I agree along party lines, but, more so because I absolutely disagree with Rush and his hate, war mongering selfishness. I can't understand why people follow or listen to him. Just like the bumper sticker I read today, I want nothing more than for Rush Limbaugh to be flushed down a toilet. I don't think that the GOP understands how destructive Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney outlandish backlashes, and hate filled speeches are, to the might of the Republican party over all. I know I'm not the only who senses a need for friendship between all political parties. Why can't Rush try to just get along with the rest of us Americans who aren't as extreme as him? America is exhausted by all the wide dividing lines that our political parties has brought forth between us. We are tired a people hindering a chance at progress. More importantly, we are tired of sore losers ranting and raving, because their guy didn't win. I hope before it is too late for the GOP, that they somehow try harder to distant themselves from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. It is not healthy for any government to be governed under the might of one political party. Giving that type of power, to the heads of state in Washington D.C., is like welcoming an axe murder to Thanksgiving dinner to cut the turkey.

I often think engaging people of the past, and compare them to very influential and engaging folks of the present. In my quest to discover the possible outcome of Rush Limbaugh, I was drawn to the deceased Russian President Boris Yelstin. After reading a detailed history report on Rush Limbaugh's life, I was even more convinced that these two men were truly and recklessly alike. They glide through life with reckless abandonment, and have taken self righteous intuition to far heights. I invite you to think about some of these comparisons. I ask you Republicans to rethink your positioning by aligning yourself with such a destructive man.

What does Rush Limbaugh and Boris Yelstin have in common?

  1. They are both authors. Boris Yelstin wrote two autobiographies. "Against the Grain", a diary of political life and "The Struggle for Russia" in 1994. Rush Limbaugh's first book was published was in 1992. "The Way Things Ought To Be" and "See, I Told You So" in 1993.
  2. Boris Yelstin opposed NATO expansion, citing it was American. Rush Limbaugh agrees, "NATO forces, that's us." - September 24, 2008

  3. Before 1997 Yelstin built his reputation on honesty, impatience and authoritarian leadership. In 1994, Rush is named as an "Honorary Member of Congress" by newly elected freshmen Republican Congressmen. Rush Limbaugh was honoured for his honesty, impatience towards liberals and authoritarian leadership that paved the way for the Congressman's election.
  4. They both had Radio Broadcasting experience. Rush Limbaugh enters the world of radio in 1972 as a music Radio Announcer. In 1979 he quit the radio industry to become Directer of Public Relations for the Kansas City Royals baseball team. Then after a nasty divorce, Rush accepted a job with 1530 KFBK Radio Station in Sacramento, California. His show was promoted as a National Syndicated Broadcast in 1988. The American Armed Forces picked up his show and aired it three times a week. In 1991 Boris Yelstin makes his first Nationally Speech from a top a Russian tank, aired to Russians by American radio.

  5. They both have appeared on television. Most notable is Boris Yelstin's resignation aired in 1999. Rush Limbaugh gives his first Nationally Addressed GOP speech February 28th, 2009.
  6. Boris Yelstin was known for his impromptu speech style. Mostly in part for complaining, name calling and accusation. Rush Limbaugh affirmed he possess the same traits in his first nationally televised address in 2009.

  7. Yelstin is often cited for his immaturity and arrogance. Republican National Committee Chairman Mr. Steele said that Mr. Limbaugh's rhetoric was "incendiary" and "ugly." In October 2003 Rush Limbaugh is fired from ESPN's NFL Countdown for making rude racial remarks.
  8. Boris Yelstin was rumored to be an alcoholic and in 1997 he publicly asked for rehabilitation. October 3, 2003 the National Enquirer broke the story of alleged drug use by Rush Limbaugh. After other news outlets confirmed the story Rush admitted he was a drug addict October 10, 2003. He immediately asked for rehabilitation and entered a 30 day rehab center.

  9. Both men made political speeches and held news conferences to clarify the state of their mental and physical health.
  10. One of Rush Limbaugh's favorite lines to use is, "Before you have a heart attack now." Boris Yelstin had had two major heart attacks before his death in 2007.

Some of the comparisons are far stretches of the imagination. But hardy undeniable is the similarities in their personalities. Both of these men were self-starters and self-made men. The one true fact pertaining to these two men, is how they both are victims of there own propaganda and success. Yelstin reveled being the target of smear campaigners and creative administrator in starting them. The same can be said for Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh has built a multimillion dollar industry off bashing politicians. Yelstin was no different.

Boris Yelstin's rise to power began after his hospitalization and attempted suicide in 1987. Between 1987 and 1991 Boris Yelstin took time to regain his health and status as a strong leader. Around or about 1990, Boris started a smear campaign against Mikhail Gorbachez in order to discredit him, his Vice President and wife, Raisa's Gorbachez. The timing couldn't have better. In 1990 Gorbachez establishes his Congress of People's Deputies. Boris Yelstin wins a landslide victory in Moscow and was elected to Congress as a Delegate and gain a seat on the Supreme Soviet. Boris didn't waste any time in criticizing Gorbachez for his slow pace and lack of commitment to reform in Russia. With Gorbachez career ending, Mikhail makes an attempt to secure his preferred successor, Nikolai Ryzhkov, the position to be Russia's first elected President. He does so by launching his own trashy smear campaign against Yelstin. It backfired. Boris Yelstin's popularity only grew. On June 12, 1991 he became the newly elected Russian President. He won the election with a whopping 57% approval rating. By the end of Yelstin's career, corruption followed by his ailing health were his ruin. Yelstin left office December 31, 1999 just minutes before the bells began to ring in the new century. Like Yelstin, Rush started as a man of the people. He broke his silence in the early 1990's and began to be the unified, spoken voice of conservatism. During decades of liberalism and in a time of a liberal congress. He was a true American hero. He was once my hero. But what has happen to this man from humble beginnings? He is nothing more than a mere image of his former self. The years of success have definitely taken their toll on Rush. It is hard to find the man I once admired as a true American leader. Often times his talk show is filled with ugly rants and racial byproduct snarling. It is a pity. I hope Rush finds his former self before he ends up like Yelstin.
