Botox is a short term for botulinum toxin. It was first discovered in the early 1900s as a bacteria product that could cause botulism, instigating paralysis in the infected person’s nerves. This toxin has been found to block the transmission of a chemical in the nerve called acetylcholine, which is responsible for nerve stimulation leading to muscle movement. This effect could cause temporary paralysis.

In early 1980s botox was tried as a treatment to block muscle spasms and treatment for facial tics and strabismus (cross eyes), and passed the criteria. In fact, it is now widely used for cosmetic purposes: removing of wrinkles and laughlines by “ironing” out or relaxing the tight muscles in the face. This is what your friend is recommending you to do – a process made popular by celebrities and public figures who have the means to enhance their physical image.

Other useful medical purposes of botox include treatment for migraine, headaches, spasms in stroke patients, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. Botox treatment has been found to be very safe and causes only temporary paralysis, lasting for three to six months. To prevent potential complications, the treatment must be done by well-trained doctors.

A drawback in using this treatment is the price. However, if such this treatment is the price, However, if such treatment will improve the affected person’s life, I believe It’s worth having.
