Bow Ties for All Ages

The newest craze is bow ties. As a fashion item, bow ties are for all ages. The younger set appreciates the "rebellious" image -- a not your Dad's necktie statement. While those a bit younger appreciate well, mom appreciates, the "cuteness" factor that bow ties bring to any outfit. Now instead of Grandpa's staid blue checked bow tie, men of all ages are wearing them in appreciation of their new look.

I like the new styles and bright colors or the polka dots favored by the college crowd. The old image of the staid, arrogant jerk as the bow tie wearer is being replaced by a younger, hipper wearer. I don't think Grandpa is going to quit wearing the bow tie but he may have more colors, patterns and textures to choose from than in the past.

Of course, like most apparel, bow ties come in different textures. Most, however, are offered in silk. If looking to purchase a bow tie, the important factor is to consider the quality of the fabric. Like most apparel, there's the Wal-Mart version and the Neimann Marcus versions offered for sale. A good rule of thumb is to choose somewhere in the middle of the price range. This will prevent the "cheap suit" look but not break the pocketbook.

Bow Ties - Not Just for Grandpa

Bow ties today come in colors from peach, purple, yellow, and even pink. There are stripes, checks and the ever popular polka dot. Universities offer bow ties with school mascots emblazoned on them and there are, of course, the Holiday bow ties with a Christmas, Valentine or patriotic themes.

I've been known to give a bow tie or two great ideas for not only formal but themed gifts to.

Bow ties probably aren't appropriate for very casual wear but are acceptable for funerals and other solemn occasions. This is a great question

A lot of famous stars and even politicians wore bow ties and made it their signatures. The time feels right for their return. Young, handsome and bow-tie, what a combination!

I think bow ties look really neat. I've never been able to tie one, so thanks for the video. Mike

Yes those bow ties look really great. Never really thought about them only for oficial engagements or singing in a choir etc.

I came across some bow ties from the 1940's that are absolutely wild in color and pattern as were the regular ties back then. I also found a funky polka dot tie from the 70's that is so huge - clown like huge - but hey, that was the fashion back then - big lapels, big fat ties with big knots when tied, and bow ties to match!
